  2. My Mamaw Johnson was an herb doctor and midwife. She could cure a cold with moonshine, herbs, honey and a Brach’s peppermint hard candy.

    2. Mamaw was a devout Baptist, so that corn liquor was strictly for medicinal purposes. Considering her daddy was the biggest moonshiner in Monroe County, Tennessee, that was saying something.

  3. My SIL was an able "curandera". My side of the family down in South-West also had their natural ways.

  4. I think Finnish grandmas had Cod Liver Oil as their main armament to ward off illness.

    And a shot of blackberry brandy in the sauna if you got sick.
