Marine Goes Running With Shelter Dogs to Help Them Get Adopted

Transitioning out of his Marine Corps service, Wesley Swainston has been exercising the dogs at a shelter, combining two of his passions: training dogs and running.

But the impact of what the 28-year-old Marine has been doing goes way beyond just pursuing his hobbies. Running the dogs and training them also helps the shelter find forever homes for these needy furballs.

  3. I bet it does wonders for the dogs who otherwise be stuck in a shelter all day.
more than one of the pound hounds I have brought home really got great after leaving the shelter. never got a dog from a breeder, always went to the pound to find one.
best dog I ever had was a 20 dollar pound hound. GS/LAB/whatever mix of 85 pounds when he filled out. used to run with me as well. I did 4-5 miles and he did 10-12 easy.
had to put him down at 17. blind, hard of hearing, hip joints going bad fast.
but the vet said he heart and lungs where sound. but I couldn't stand watching him fall down while trying to walk across the kitchen. a part of me died the day I put him down
Jack was a great dog. it was just too hard to watch him in pain. regardless of the pills I got from the vet to help him out. dave in pa.

    1. was really dusty when I was writing this. it been 23 years now and it still hurts
he was great rabbit hunting dog. but he always wanted his share.
last time I took him out hunting , he was 14 or so. you never know it the way he was acting. had 2 uncles that wanted to keep him in KY when we went thru there.
my dad told them that I would shoot both of them before giving up my dog.
he made great pups too. used to say it one of Jacks and they wanted one.
he was hands down the best 20 bucks I ever spent. getting dusty again.
life is not the same without a good dog by your side. dave in pa.

  5. Thank you for sharing about Jack and all these good dogs, and the good Marine. I would love to have a dog, but can't keep one properly because I work and travel a lot. I hope when I retire... In the meantime, thanks for letting me enjoy your dog's, past and present.
