I still have the one first given to me in 1987. Looking back through every now and again is always a trip down "memory lane". I was fairly good when I was younger at remembering phone numbers. Since I got a cellphone, remembering phone numbers is out the window. LOL
Still have one, a Rolodex and my Sharp Wizard. Don't have a smart phone, just a flip phone that I seldom use and I long for the days of my old bag phone.
I had a similar model early in my career when I did full time support. It was amazing how many phone numbers we could keep in our heads during that time period.
Recently buying a more executive-styled NOS unit, you will know you "have made it to the top" in my little world, if I have penciled you into my flip-open A-Z.
And our appointment is a bog deal if you are written into my tear-off-daily AT-A-GLANCE calendar.
Why?
No batteries, no cloud-server, and device-free are the main reasons.
Have been known to travel with a Filofax address book/planner as well.
(And I have have all the good electronics, but I also have had them all break, lose entries or get corrupted into uselessness)
Never had one of those fancy ones. Mine is a baby six-ring binder that sits in a cubby of my desk topper. The other day, for some reason, the daughter was thumbing through it and found a small envelope with one of her baby curls in it. She was of the opinion I keep odd things.

ReplyDeleteOne of many pieces of social archeology tying us to our past.
ReplyDeleteI got one as a present once. I only had about 5 contacts I considered worth calling and had their numbers memorized.
ReplyDeletelol, never had one either due to not knowing anyone that I cared to call.
DeleteNever had one. No friends, no contacts, no need. :-(
ReplyDeleteOMG I remember those! I remember playing around with my Grandmothers'. She was so patient with me.
ReplyDeleteThe exact thing I was going to say.
DeleteState of the art modern tech.

ReplyDeleteDon't forget the Rolodex!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Rolodex guy myself. By the way for all you yongsters that's not a digital model of a Rolex

ReplyDeleteI want one. Always just had a page of a memo pad with all important numbers wrote down folded up in my wallet.
ReplyDeleteI still have my two Rolodex's from my working in a box down cellar. Probably ought to send them on their way to the Dodo.
ReplyDeleteNemo
Don't scrap it Nemo. Dust it off and oil it because Walmart still has Rolodex Card File Refills Card Stock, White, 2.25in x 4in, 100 Sheets for $8.51

I have a Rolodex within arms reach right now. The only problem is it has more contacts info for dead people that live ones.

ReplyDeleteSo simple, yet so clever. I remember having one until the mid-2000s, then losing it in a move.
ReplyDeleteBefore I got a cell fone I kept a small appointment book in the leg pocket of my flight suit with my schedule and addresses in it.
ReplyDeleteI quit wearing a watch at the same time I went digital with all that crap.
Now I do have a small notebook with user names and logins in it. That lives in the ammo box with my credit cards, cash and the rest of my "Git Kit".
If I ever wake up to a house fire, that goes out the window first.
