Education in America has a political problem. At this point, even the Chronicle of Higher Education admits that conservatives have been winnowed out of academia, leaving a brittle coterie of narrow-minded extremists to staff faculties across the country. But the problem does not end with leftist indoctrination. Conservatives are increasingly divided about how to address the issue.

ReplyDeleteThe difference between federal government involvement in education then and now is that then the fedgov provided money to build schools, gave instructions on what they wanted the result of education to be, and left it to the local government and citizens to do. Since 1979 fedgov has provided money ONLY if their strict requirements as to what must be taught and how, and if students are well-enough indoctrinated by and in those requirements to pass regular testing.
