Garth Hudson, last surviving member of The Band, dies at 87
Garth Hudson, the keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist who was the last surviving member of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members The Band, has died, his manager confirmed to ABC News. He was 87.
Too bad about Garth Hudson. I'm not a huge fan of The Band's body of work, but enjoy a few of their tunes. I will say they got one of the choicest names ever for a group of musicians. It's funny to think about the fact nobody else grabbed it before they did, being so obvious and perfect.
Of course, even those from the 80's are old now, and kicking off in some quantity. It kind of shocks me (at 50 myself) how many musicians and other well known people from my childhood and teen years are dropping dead. Admittedly, a lot of these sorts of people played with a fast and loose lifestyle, and it caught up with them prematurely. Even still, it is disconcerting watching the world one knew slip away into oblivion.
The Band was an icon for their time.. Rest in Peace Garth

And Keith just keeps on truckin'.
DeleteSadly, it's the twilight of the rock gods. Apologies to Richard Wagner.
