In the wake of the death of Jimmy Carter, I can acknowledge that it was probably Carter that started my political awareness. While running for office in 1976, the same year as the Colorado Centennial, I remember sitting in the barber’s chair having my hair cut while on the television screen in the upper-left corner of the shop was Jimmy Carter. I was 15.
I graduated HS in 76 and remember very well the crazy goings on in DC.. A inept peanut farmer joined the race for president and much to most everyone I knew at the time surprise he won... Then it became one fuck up after another with him..
ReplyDeleteThey say don't speak of the dead unless you say something good.. well he's finally dead and that's good

I am ashamed to say that I voted for Carter simply because, #1 I was only 25 and didn't know anything about politics, #2 being a multigenerational Florida resident, I was convinced by my then FIL that having a Southerner in the WH (first ever) would be good for Florida. That is what taught me to never, ever, under any circumstance, vote for a Democrat again. For that reason, Jimmuh was a good president.

DeleteI was 8 in 1980 and I remember being excited that our president was a Southern Baptist (my dad was a Southern Baptist minister). I was confused when I asked my mom on Election Day if she voted for Carter and she said that voting was “personal and private.” I figured it out by the time I was a teenager.😀 Mom later told me that voting for Carter in 1976 was the last time she and dad ever voted for a Democrat.
DeleteI'll admit I voted for him as well being a political neophyte. That being said he was a Navy veteran, served on submarines and earned his dolphins. For that he has my respect. He also took full responsibility for the failed Iran hostage rescue mission. He made many bad decisions during his presidency but unlike Biden, he actually loved his country.
ReplyDeleteHe is now on "eternal patrol" reporting to the Supreme Commander.
"Rest your oar sailor, we have the watch"
I agree he made lots of bad decisions during his presidency and he interfered in several other administrations without proper authority.. Take the North Korean talks during
Deletefellow demonkrap Bill Clinton's presidency, and how Bill felt about it .

He was my first vote for a Pres. Been voting Republican ever since. I do believe he was a good man but alas a Democrat.
ReplyDeleteI was 26, married with 2 kids. When he got elected I bought an M1A because I know the end was near. I didn't know that the end had arrived a long time before that. I paid 350$ for the gun with 5 magazines, sling, cleaning kit and 250 rounds of Lake City match. Of course, gold was 125$ an ounce. Ed
ReplyDeleteSame thing is going on with boomers (subs) right now. These subs are the only thing that keep us from going full nuke with Russia right now since Biden has declared his proxy war with Putin. There's no money or parts to repair one on an over extended drydock visit now, while the others are at sea, on missions that are way over their original schedule. Our military is in deep trouble right now. Not just finances but the DEI and Woke crap is having a severe impact on recruiting and retention. Funny how there's billions to sent to the Ukraine though.
ReplyDeleteSo as far as subs go, we're back where we were in '63 when we lost the Thresher?
DeleteI was also Navy at that time (came in in late '72), but an Airdale. The biggest thing I remember about the Carter administration was that sonofabitch Defense Secretary Harold Brown was trying to take away my flight pay and telling everyone "That's what we're doing and anyone that doesn't like it can vote with their feet."
The troops took him to heart and left the military in droves. Remaining active duty registered in record numbers and voted for Ronald Reagan. Dem's have continued to shit on the military and veterans ever since and bust their asses to suppress the military vote.
Fuck you Jimmy. Now, let's plant the bastard and move on.
The Ukraine billions? Think kickbacks...
DeleteCarter helped create the "Trilaterial Commision." The Council on Foreign Relations was taking too long in forming the foundations for the New World Order.
ReplyDeleteAnon - David Rockefeller created the Trilateral, but JC became a member at his invitation in 1975.
ReplyDeleteThe Misery Index was this, as follows: Rate of Inflation + Unemployment Rate.
Inflation at better than 12% and mortgages at better than 18%. Even several years after that idiot left the WH, my first house mortgage was 11.5%. And don't even get me started on COWPES (affectionately dubbed cowpies in the oil field). Good riddance to that incompetent little asswipe of an asshole.
ReplyDeleteJimma has passed the trophy for worst President ever to Bribem, as it should be.

When I was in the 4th grade my teacher had the whole class brainwashed except for me. I didn't have a recess for the rest of the year because I wasn't on board with her crap. even as a child I knew that she was wrong, it didn't have much to do with Carter. Her politics changed my attitude with school for the rest of my time. I hated every minute of it. College was just a trial you had to go through to move on with your life. That peanut farmer dying just reminded me of why I hate Democrats and liberals.
