The FDA Proposes a De Facto Cigarette Ban, Which Would Expand the Disastrous War on Drugs

On its way out the door, the Biden administration has proposed a rule that would effectively ban cigarettes by requiring a drastic reduction in nicotine content. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which unveiled the proposed rule on Wednesday, says the aim is to make cigarettes unappealing by eliminating their "psychoactive and reinforcing effects."

  1. I'm not against legalizing shit, I'm against not letting people fail and float down the gutter with their bad decisions in hand.

  3. Stupid idiots. I guess we'll all start smoking water pipes and premium cigars... or growing our own tobacco.

  4. I don't smoke so I don't have any skin in the game, but it's just another government bullshit overreach. Of course some will say it’s for the smoker’s health, but what if the government mandates you wear a approved jacket when the temperature drops below 50 degrees to protect your health? Besides the sale of high nicotine will just go underground.

    1. As much as I hate smoking, It is not the role of government to do that which is "good". It is not the role of government to protect you from yourself. The Federal government has certain enumerated powers, and regulating cancer sticks is clearly not one of them.

If your state wants to ban them, that's a different issue. Most states won't for the simple fact of tax revenue.

    2. Yep, really good. They also need to ban: soda with sugar, soda without sugar, red meat, bacon, all alcoholic beverages, coffee, non herbal teas, aspirin, antibiotics, most city water, and all air because these thing contain toxins. Be careful.

  7. Now get the chemicals out of junk food that make them addictive. For those who don't know the same scientist who made cigarettes addictive moved on to make food addictive. Always about the money not your health.

  8. Creating another very profitable revenue stream for smugglers. Didn't they study what happened during prohibition?

  10. If people wanna smoke that's their business.I think over $100.00 a carton is stupid crazy but if smoking keeps people's endorphins happy so they don't kill us then let them alone for Pete sakes. Bigger fish to fry

  11. So, if there's less nicotine per cigarette, why would a smoker not just increase the number of cigarettes that they smoke in a day? I'm sure that the increase in cigarette sales would be an "unintended" side effect of this ridiculous nanny state foolishness.

  12. I personally make my own cigs, using a modern cig machine. I pay, with shipping and product, $0.68 PER PACK. The machine costs $50, add in a couple of 1 pound bags of tobacco and 5 cartons of tubes.for about another $50, and in 1 carton price, totally pays itself off resulting in 68 cent packs moving forward.

The company that was recommended to me, and I still use as they are awesome:
