This Australian city wants to charge people to work on their cars

Residents of Victoria’s most populous region have to pay upwards of $400 just to work on their own vehicles, after a local government area imposed strict rules around private land use earlier this year.

The City of Casey in Melbourne’s south-east, which includes suburbs like Cranbourne and Berwick, requires residents to apply for a private land use permit if they’re planning to store more than two unregistered vehicles for up to 90 days, store long heavy vehicles, and even dismantle, repair or service vehicles.

  2. It's all about micromanaging every facet of your life no matter how small and making you pay for it. Sounds like one giant, fascist HOA

  3. One hopes that at some point, people wake up and realize that they are getting the stupidity they stupidly voted for then decide to vote differently. Sadly this seems to be a very slow process as evidenced by the current state of the U.K. and sadly, by extension, Australia fits the same mould (and I don't mean the black icky slime stuff in your shower stall though this may be appropriate when discussing politicians).

    1. Unelected bureaucrats have wrought more power and control over our lives than the idiots we elect. It's past time to take out the garbage.

  5. Victoria is the Australian state equivalent of California. Home to Melbourne, their equivalent of San Fran. Lots of fuckery down south in Oz, it is definitely not Queensland!

  6. "While the City of Casey doesn’t have explicit guidelines on what it defines as being “detrimental to the amenity of the area”, the laws mean residents could be made to seek approval to do something as simple as an oil change, which could cost more than $400 before purchasing the relevant equipment."

How much does an adjustable hammer cost down under?

  8. Gee what's the point of having private property if it's not private?

  9. I doubt that there are more than a handful of nations on earth where, if given the opportunity, the citizens would NOT rise up and eliminate their governments and those who infest them. Allowing themselves to basically be disarmed has empowered and emboldened the scum in the Australian government beyond belief.

  10. If you have qualms about doing what is necessary for a life of freedom then you deserve slavery. It's time the populace started exercising their rights.

  12. In commiefornia, in most places you can't work on your car. Gotta take it to a shop just for an oil change. Or drive to the country change it yourself then drive another 50 miles to a facility that takes used oil. These geniuses think this is saving the planet.

    Now, not so much.

  14. Australia, settled by convicts, is now a prison.

    1. Not exactly.

Yes, Australia WAS indeed a prison colony. But it wasn’t the inmates that settled Australia, had families, and made it what it is today. It was the prison GUARDS. Inmates weren’t allowed to have families.

So the entire nation of Australia is the offspring of prison guards and cops.

That’s why ir sucks so much, and why the concept of personal freedom is so abhorrent to them.
