Appalachia People True Stories of what they called SPARKING in The Mountains
Sparking is what the old mountain people use to call courting or dating back in the day. Here is a few true love stories of sparking and how they meet their future wife and how they got married.
I can remember as 12 year old kids (55 years ago), my buddy's aunt & uncle once made a vague reference to "...we used to go sparking down there...", talking about a local lake, and we sorta knew what they meant. If they were still alive, they'd have been over 100 years old by now. Ed
I remember hearing the term in conversation amongst kinfolk as a boy. Late '60s into the '70s. I come from country folk on both sides, flatland sharecroppers on the Southside of Atlanta on my dad's side, hillbilly po' white trash from NW Atlanta on my Mama's.
