California bill aims to crack down on illegal street vending in San Francisco

San Francisco's elected officials are pushing for tougher penalties for the resale of stolen goods through a revived proposal in the California State Legislature.

Mayor Daniel Lurie is collaborating with state Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, on a bill that would increase penalties for those involved in illegal fencing operations, which is when stolen merchandise is later resold for a profit. The measure targets the growing problem of vendors reselling stolen goods on the sidewalks of San Francisco, particularly in the Mission District and South of Market areas.

  1. Sooo it is not illegal to steal but it is illegal to sell the stolen goods? Also it is illegal to rebuild your burned house back to its original form . The lunatics are in fact in charge and fornicating the canine at a record pace.

    1. The fun part (note the sarcasm) is that if you don't rebuild in 2 years, you lose your prop 13 protection and your property taxes skyrocket. Guess who gets to approve your rebuild? The same AH who profits by you missing the 2 year deadline.

  2. Insufficient. Make it legal to shoot thieves again and watch the problem magically vanish. Targeting the fences is a good idea too, but it won't be enough. At best they make being a fence less profitable, which means the thieves get a little less money, and have to steal a little more.
