My father-in-law was a gunner on one of these vehicles. He's got some wild stories about his tour.
I've heard and read a lot about those guys. Most need special wheel chairs to get around because with balls the size of watermelons you can't walk OR sit naturally.
ReplyDeleteThere was a pass N of DaNang I heard talked about. I can't remember the name but it was spoken of with hushed tones. A good friend, Army, said he was ambushed several times in this pass.
ReplyDeleteProbably thinking of Hải Vân Pass, never had the pleasure. Aside from a short spell on in-around Hill 55 and an even shorter time in the Delta, most of my tour was along the DMZ.
DeleteActually, those Army doggies were really - really crazy (not all that ballsy) with an open-air (unprotected) seat a gook sniper could take out the gunner with one bullet.
ReplyDeleteThe Fat Electrician has an awesome video on them...
