My father-in-law was a gunner on one of these vehicles. He's got some wild stories about his tour.

  1. I've heard and read a lot about those guys. Most need special wheel chairs to get around because with balls the size of watermelons you can't walk OR sit naturally.

  2. There was a pass N of DaNang I heard talked about. I can't remember the name but it was spoken of with hushed tones. A good friend, Army, said he was ambushed several times in this pass.

    1. Probably thinking of Hải Vân Pass, never had the pleasure. Aside from a short spell on in-around Hill 55 and an even shorter time in the Delta, most of my tour was along the DMZ.

    2. Thanks that sounds fimiliar. I was on 55. More like I went over it a couple times. I was on the Golden Gate for a couple weeks and the Liberty for a few days at the base of the hill. Spent some time in Dodge City. Just all over Arizona Territory.

  3. Actually, those Army doggies were really - really crazy (not all that ballsy) with an open-air (unprotected) seat a gook sniper could take out the gunner with one bullet.

  6. Met a guy who drove trucks in Vietnam, he described a Viet Cong sniper's bullet passing a foot from his face.
