There have been so many attempts in San Francisco to address the issue of chronic homelessness that we have lost track. It's a struggle to help those homeless people who don't want help.
To tell this woman's story is to know her -- we don't, not for a lack of trying.
When he was Mayor of SF, Newsome announced a plan to fix homelessness within 10 years...
ReplyDeleteThat was 20 years ago
I remember that. At that time I was doing advocacy work with the homeless in Stanislaus County and got drafted to give a speech on the steps of the Federal Building. Both Newsom and Kamala Harris got up after me and gave speeches on ending homelessness in 10 years.
DeleteWhat a crock of shit that turned out to be.
Hey give the overworked guy a break. It’s all about priorities. In his defense Gov. Newsom's tackling a more existential threat to California with the pending the extinction of the Delta smelt.
DeleteGovernment never wants to solve the problem, then they would lose the funding. Government always wants more problems so they can steal more of our money
ReplyDeleteThey have $50 million to fight Trump. Hundreds of millions for hollywierd. Hundreds of millions to pay un-elected officials 1/2 to 3/4 of a million a year to make our lives miserable. Millions to give to themselves so they can live like gods while we pay $6 a gallon for gas and we have to rely on food banks to survive.
ReplyDeleteIt's illogical to think they can solve it, they can't make anyone accept their offer for help.. Laws can be made to outlaw the encampments inside the city limits and arrest them when they violate the law but they can't be kept forever... When released they are going back to doing what they do so the cycle continues..
ReplyDeleteI have no answer besides moving them out to some empty land somewhere else

They're called "favelas" and are usually located in places with the best view. Designate an area they won't get fucked with and crack their heads when they try to expand.
DeleteThat or Poor Farms and mental institutions come back to the fore.
Any money designated for the homeless will never make it to the homeless because you have to pay for the politicians to make it happen. Besides, the homeless are dug in like ticks. And any news that you will do something for the homeless draws more homeless. Really have to do anything without publicity which a politician cannot do.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget about the service providers. Some of them get obscene amounts of money through state and federal grants without actually doing anything.
DeleteHow about creating real JOBS! Deport 30 million illegals in cal alone. No more b.s. degrees for ditch digging. Take down the roadblocks to start and run a biz. There's all kinds of solutions. Fire those bureaucrats making up rules like state run hoa's.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the profit in that
Delete"Will it work this time? "
ReplyDeleteShort answer - No.
I don't know if there is a solution that isn't "wait until the next ice age." We could kill them all, but that's not very christian. We could relocate them to the deepest, darkest parts of South America, or Africa, but that would require the consent of Brazil or The Democratic Republic of the Congo. There aren't enough lions or tigers in American zoos to eat them all. We could give them to Phizer for testing new drugs?
ReplyDeleteThere aren't many kind, decent, or moral actions we can take. I guess we could pay the New Jersey mob $5k for each one they make disappear, but only if they make them all disappear.
At least it would be humane.
