Just today I was thinking along those lines. This is how it went:
At the car parts shop, I said to employee Matt, The other day I spoke with employee Victoria. She was snippy and having a bad day. Today I spoke with her over the phone. She seemed irritable. Is she always that way? Matt replied, No. It's that she's stressed, we all are stressed having to learn a new inventory system plus having to restock the entire shop plus do our regular duties. I said, That's good to know.
I thought about that as I went off for some target shooting. I decided getting to know the people is as, or more important as getting to know the products. Without the people in a cheerful disposition, the product may sell but not as well if with the right attitude. Too, the better you know someone, the more you may help that person.
Not to say, I'm going to help you, but maybe a kind word which is meaningful to them. Generally, as humans we should help one another. You're more apt to succeed the more you know of that person. A sour disposition pushes them away. At most, you commiserate which breeds more ill feelings. No right mind wants that. But to know them is best, for what you may offer becomes more genuine. It always comes down to attitude, doesn't it? If you can say or do even one thing that will brighten someone's day, you have succeeded.
As I reflected on all this I was amazed at myself. I was mostly quite angry until my late twenties. Anger was my natural state. I'd bite your head off just because. I grew to enjoy pushing people away. So the transformation in me from then to now has been remarkable. God is patient and persistent. I am glad for that.
