Time for a selfie!

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has charged a 16-year-old accused of bringing a gun on school campus.

MNPD reports the teen was arrested overnight after a classmate at STEM Magnet School told police of the incident on Monday. According to the student, he was taking selfies in the mirror of a school bathroom when the teen, who the student did not know, asked to take a photo together.

  2. The only I can conclude from this story is: 1- People are stupid 2- Cellphones are evil. Combine the 2 and welcome to 21st century America.

  4. A magnet school. Parents will drive fifty miles, passing through multiple school districts, to enroll their children in a magnet school. Golly, that's why they're called magnets.

I'll speculate that due to restrictions at home, the only place for the kid to indulge his teenage proclivities was at school.

A lot of boys are dorks at that age. Awkward as all get out. Then add parental expectations for their baby STEM student. The kid wasn't rebelling to authority or had malicious intent. He got caught being awkward. Likely he's more embarrassed than anyone.

This is an indictment of zero tolerance policy. The *ahem* adults are to blame.

Sanctioned sports and activities are not enough ... because they are sanctioned. Kids need to cut loose once in a while. It's a phase. Like Klingons and Vulcans passing through their weirdness whatever. But deny them that, you get wrapped too tight sociopaths.
