What was supposed to be a checkup on a vacant family property quickly turned into a tragedy after deputies in South Carolina say a man was fatally shot at the “booby-trapped” home.
Not unique. The old 12 gauge with a tripwire on the door trick. I saw that in a movie years ago. The only thing that surprised me was I didn't think the booby-trapper would be an aged Uncle Remus.
They sell 12 gauge 'noise makers' that 'activate' using a trip wire or other means. Takes a 12 gauge blank. Yeah, right. If it fits a blank round, it will take a loaded round.
If by your question you are addressing the fact that the man technically 'shot himself', not exactly. There is a term 'Death by Misadventure' that covers such situations, though it is usually applied to people who die due to something done deliberately, but without any intention of self harm in any way. Say, a skydiver who's parachute fails, a cave diver who gets stuck, or a free climber who slips.

ReplyDeleteThe foresight shown has him on the right tail of the curve.
DeleteIn the land of lack of impulse control, the pre-planning murderer has a higher body count.
That's Uncle Ben from the "it's them again tribe."

DeleteDoesn't that mean that this shooting was a suicide?
ReplyDeleteLooks like the uncle might he charged with murder, so probably not.

I was under the possibly mistaken impression that the victim placed the set-gun. But who am I to argue with a Protector.
DeleteThe bigger question, where they asked to check on the house, or taking advantage of relative in jail to go help themselves?
ReplyDeleteBooby traps for booby troops.
