when my grandfather had a heart attack in the park walking his 2 dogs, the cops had to shoot them because they would not let ANYONE near him. and the one cop was crying over it when he was telling my parents about it. as my dad said about it later, "he was a dog guy"
While working EMS/Fire I went to a man down call. He had mental issues and had cut his hair, burned himself ( not serious) and O.D. His dog, a German Shepard, stood watch over him. Police were there and everyone was in a room with door to the dinning area. I had bunker gear, fire coat and helmet with face shield and said I would go in first. Police were ready to dispatch the Shepard if I was attacked. As I came in and Kneeled next to him while talking to the dog, he let me approach and check the man. The dog allowed me to remove my gloves and then my helmet and check him for respirations and pulse. He knew I was there to help. I was able to take the dog by the collar and lead him to another room. They know. If only we could sense what they do.
It's spring, I currently have Siberian Huskies, fine fluffy winter undercoat coming off in handfulls. I could keep my truck "Hair free" , BUT, to see their joy as I harness them up, and their sensory overload as we drive windows down, worth all the Vacuuming.
I fell and badly twisted my ankle and fractured it outside while it was raining, I couldn't get up and another apt resident called the fire department and ambulance. I was walking my 10# Chihuahua female 16 years old and she wouldn't let the EMTs come near me, she barked and charged them, luckily a female resident came out and Guido liked her and allowed her to pick her up and cuddle while the EMTs could do their stuff. They thought they were gonna have to call a cop or animal control. She was a good girl and got a treat for that. No, she didn't abandon me...

I've taken in some sick dogs and cats to give them a good last couple of months. Somehow, those have been the deaths that have hit me the hardest.

DeleteYeah, dog's sense of duty isn't ambiguous.
But he did eat him.
