#17 I swam competitively through to college. On our community swim club was a girl who was faster than any in the club. She made it to the Olympics.
She finished last in her every event. In her strongest event she was nearly lapped. She was so far back, her times weren't even posted. Back home we all wondered if something happened that she didn't do her best. She said nope, she felt good, ready to go. She swam her best.
Her brother was very fast too. He didn't even make the cut for the Olympics.
Look up something on YouTube called The Scallenge. Guy who was a career bench warmer in the NBA challenged regular guys to 1on1 when he was done playing, and he smoked them. Never lost and the games were never close. He would say "I'm closer to LeBron than you are to me." Pros make it look so easy that we think we can emulate them, but we cannot.
In the old Travis McGee books MacDonald would often point out that going up a man who boxed in any capacity professionally was a losing proposition. You didn't want to do that.
