  2. back in the 1980's I lived on base. the guy 2 doors up had a pure breed something . I forget what it was now, but my old dog Jack had knocked the bitch up like 3 times in 3 years.
and his "girl" was behind a 6 foot fence ! old Jack always found a way to get to her.
now, Jack was on a chain outside of the house "most of the time"
now the guy never had a problem getting the pups homes, it just he wanted to make some money off her. Jack was a 20 dollar pound hound. a mixed breed to be sure, I thought he was like a lab mix with something? anyway, he was a great dog. loved to go hunting.
but you had to give him at least one rabbit. birds ,he didn't care for.
was really good with the kids as they where growing up. good watch dog and he could get out of anything. 17 years was not long enough. Vet said his heart was good, lungs too.
but he was blind and couldn't walk 10 feet without falling down. I still cry to this day thinking of him. of all the hard things I had to do in life, that was the worse.
when I saw the picture above, my first thought was of that guy showing me what my damn dog jack did AGAIN ! dave in pa.

    1. another thing, old jack sired a litter with a yellow lab once. once word got around base that they where HIS pups, I had people asking for one. yep. old Jack had a rep on post.
even 2 MPs asked for one of his pups. he get loose and run off after rabbits or whatever and then the MPs would bring his ass home. had him hooked to the porch ONCE. he ripped the post out at the base going after a rabbit. we think.
the post guys installed a steel post set in concrete in the backyard for me after that.
he was a good size too, easy 100 pounds. used to run around the airfield with me when I did PT. I ran 4.5 miles and he did maybe 10 ? always came back when it was time to go home though. two of the pups where spitting image of him too.
the male pup went down to Texas with a guy I worked with for his dad.
the female one went to a MP I knew. I forget about the other 6 of them.
anyway. that was a while ago now. still have pictures of him on the wall.

  3. I had an awesome lab/shepherd mix. Looked like a big black GSD with floppy ears. His mom was a standard issue black/tan GSD, his dad a retreiver mix - like golden and yellow lab. All the puppies were jet black. Some looked like their mom, some the dad. Best dog ever. Only lived to 9. Got sick and had to be put down. Worst day of my life. Worse than the wife leaving, by far.

don't miss the EX one bit. but I would sure love to have a few more years with my dogs, I have been very lucky to have some great ones. but that only hurts more I think at times. dave in pa.

    2. Exes you get over, or celebrate getting rid of her, but your dog is a whole different matter.. A woman that tries to keep a man's dog should be shot on sight

  4. Apparently the male golden has had a vasectomy.

  5. I had to put down my 10 pound couch warmer a couple of weeks ago. When I had to put the cat down a couple of years ago I teared up a little bit. But when it came to the dog, I cried like a bitch.
