A missing toddler spent the night alone in the remote Arizona wilderness and walked seven miles through mountain lion territory before being led to safety by a dog, local police have said.
I read that story this morning at MSN. Incredibly lucky child to have found that dog and instinctively followed it to the ranch. That dog earned its Alpo that day ! I wonder why that dog wandered that far out in the first place. ?
Dollars to donuts Buford did a lot of gentle nudging. When my kids were toddlers we had a pyrensees that would watch the kids. If they started walking out toward our country road the dog would walk up and block them and then gently take an arm in the mouth and walk them back toward the house.
Many years ago I had an Australian Shepherd that would herd the kids and my then wife if they ran in the yard... He would turn them to where he wanted them to go.. He was a great dog JD
yeah, my old dog Jack used to keep the kids in the yard when they where little. he was hands down the best 20 bucks I ever spent ! a 20 dollar pound hound. lab and something else mix. even my dog Slim kept my neighbor grandkids in their yard. he always seem to stay between them and the road. he was nuts about their little girl. and she in turn was nuts about him. her of maybe 20 pounds and Slim was a easy 110 pound roadie ridgeback. when my grandson was here, slim was always with him. dogs just know to watch over little ones. it a rare gift to have a good dog. dave in pa.
Had a Pyrenees-Catahoula cross, great dog and the biggest I've had by far. Can't imagine the size of a Pyrenees-Anatolian Shepard cross. I bet the kid could have rode him and he wouldn't have noticed.
A 2 year old made seven miles? Daayum.. And then Explained how he laid under a tree? At two? Helluva kid. Probably held onto the dog and let it help him along. Pyrenees are very different animals. I've known a couple from neighbors.

Great story with a great ending. Excellent work by the dog, but I'm a bit amazed that a toddler walked 7 miles.
ReplyDeleteBuford is a really good boy
