Typical red neck science. Let's set em of in the air and see what happens, let's set em off on the ground and see what happens, let's set em of under water and see what happens, let's set em off in space and see what happens, let's set em off underground and see what happens.
Anon 3:10. They didn't. Those in the blast zone were gone, those in the flash zone were gone, those outside the blast and flash zone suffered but the fire wasn't nearly as bad as the firestorms in Tokyo and other cities after we spent weeks dropping firebombs wholesale.
I was flushing out a stump on a steep wet hill; I was on the down side on one knee and when the saw was being pulled through at the end of the cut, I lost my balance. That saw caught the chaps and stalled the saw, saved my leg and got me written up by my supervisor. My crew leader said I was white as a ghost when he saw me. I was so surprised the way it happened, but I changed the way I flushed stumps after that. The supervisor wanted to get me time off for ruining the chaps! At the fact finder, he stated that I was operating the saw recklessly and that it should have never happened. I asked him how he could state such a reason as he was not there and only read a report. I was never interviewed by Mgt before the fact-finder. The union rep was a joke and told me to take the hit for the team; I told him I didn't need his "help" and that I'd do fine once the facts were understood. Long story short, I explained that the chaps are a consumable much like a tether-line on a harness. They are safety equipment that are designed to be used once to avoid serious injury or death. I brought in a bunch of info from logging and landscaping whereas it was explained how the chaps are designed to work, As they did for me! The fact finder found no fault and found out that the chaps were and are an essentail part of using a chainsaw
I agree. If you had a good safety record up to that point your supervisor should have sided with you and not attempted to find fault. I've had a couple of foremen like that and didn't appreciate them not backing me up. He of all people should know that shit happens out there.
And regarding chaps, they did slow the chain speed down considerably before my thigh was slightly cut and I would have been injured much worse without them. As it was, I didn't even need stitches and continued working that day. So I do believe chaps are a valuable safety item, especially when you're working alone. A guy could bleed out pretty quickly in a situation like that.

Little Ms. Giraffe can't be allowed to believe it is acceptable to treat others that way just for fun. Defensive combatives do have their Merits, though. #8, that asshat will never be forgiven, and will be a criminal by age16.

DeleteSerious question. How did the wooden structures in Nagasaki survive the extreme heat from the nuclear blast?
DeleteLooks like there was more than one explosion.
DeleteAnon @ 3:10. What if it wasn't nuclear? Or even atomic.

Did the one girl get her head bounced off the table? Nice looking gals all of them.
Delete#5 shows you can still get cut while wearing chaps. Ask me how I know.
ReplyDeleteBe careful out there.
My Husky shop owner saw a demo where the rep did that to his own leg. They worked as designed but the idea still makes my bowels feel loose.
