The Rebel Sharpshooter at Gettysburg | Civil War Then & Now

Garry Adelman breaks down one of the most famous photos in American history, Timothy O'Sullivan and Alexander Gardner's shot of the dead Confederate sharpshooter at Devil's Den after the Battle of Gettysburg.

  2. Photographers posed a lot of the Civil War photos, dragging dead bodies to and fro, trying to make the shot look more or less horrifying depending on what they wished to push as an agenda.

    Nothing new under the sun. The lies portrayed in the etchings of the Boston Massacre make it look like the English just randomly attacked the rioters. And that some of the victims were far closer than they were (yeah, some bystanders not involved were hit by gunfire.) Thankfully Samuel Adams (yes, that Sam Adams) successfully defended the redcoats in court.
