"In a detached rear workshop, the sergeant was “conducting maintenance on his personally owned firearm” when the gun unintentionally discharged, police said."
A gun doesn't discharge itself, that's done by the handler of the gun. Disclaimer: Unless it's a Sig P320...
Also, in some firearms, particularly full-autos, you can have a “cook-off” where the heat sets off the chambered round. Also, I’ve seen duds go off a few seconds after you’ve squeezed rhe trigger. If that happens at the range, keep the barrel pointed down range and take out the dud only after a full 60 seconds. If it happens during a firefight, immediately clear the chamber and continue on.
A Los Angeles Police Department officer negligently shot himself on Tuesday, suffering a minor bullet graze in the process. There, I fixed it for them.
I don't see why this even made the news. All my guns load themselves and fire themselves randomly. It's a minor nuisance at worst. Even my air rifles pump themselves up and shoot themselves in the middle of the night. Sure, I've got a few scars and my monthly sheetrock repair bill is higher than most folks, but that's no big deal.

"Lodged in the door frame"?
ReplyDeleteRather large frame or rather small round.

ReplyDeleteYou too? I hear my guns rustling around at night, scratching the safe door, trying to get out.
DeleteNeighbors must have reported a gunshot otherwise this event would have never seen the light of day.
ReplyDeleteI bet it was a Glock.
ReplyDeleteCan’t believe that he was dumb enough to report it unless some neighbor heard the shot and called it in
ReplyDeleteIronic, considering how reluctant the LAPDogs are to light off a round on looters and rioters.
