Our only bummer with moving from CA to TN is that the Mexican food sucks here. 68 years in CA and Mexican food had become a staple or should I say was a staple.
I agree 100% with that statement. Tennesseans do not like spicy food. We're lucky enough to have a Mexican restaurant here in town that will throw some spice and serious heat to whatever I order, but I have to ask them to punch it up for me. Do yourself a favor and watch the shows on this guy's channel, then cook your own Mexican food.
After five years in California and 18 in Texas, coming back to West Virginia has been a little difficult as far as spicy food. Pretty much have to make your own. Same with Cajun. We get by, though! I ain’t skeered of no stove. I do miss driving a mile from my house to a little Mexican dive for breakfast a couple times a week. Eod1sg Ret
I really, really miss taco trucks. I've run across a few of them here, but their tacos are like Taco Bell tacos. I don't like crunchy tortillas and I detest sour cream on my tacos. Give me a soft corn tortilla, meat, some onion, tomato and cilantro, then ladle some hot salsa over it - it's not that fucking hard and you'd think a taco truck cook could figure it out.
I hated it for years and refused to put it of my food, then one day somebody turned me on to a burrito that had it in it. I didn't want to be rude so I ate it anyway and halfway through it I realized it was pretty damned good. Now it goes into almost all of my Mexican food.
Whenever I make a batch of salsa it's always cilantro heavy ,. a girl I was seeing made a comment once ,"you like a little salsa with your cilantro" JD
I miss "my" taco truck cook. She'd have it sitting out of reach to anyone else when they pulled into the parking lot. Co-workers asked why I got treated special. I dunno, maybe tipping half the cost of the 911 burrito has something to do with it.
