5: Opal. The water wash makes it look a lot better (as if polished). Probably Australia, Coober Pedy or S America, Brazil or Peru. A hunk that size, with that kind of flash, is easily in the 10s of thousands as rough. A polished piece the size of your little finger's last two joints with that kind of fire was well over $5K 40 years ago, unmounted.

I fucking hate gypsies. They're all thieves. There was a permanent camp of them just up the road headed towards Landstuhl the second time my dad was stationed in Germany. It was away from the road and hidden during the spring and summer, but you could see that nasty fucker during the fall and winter. Talk about a real shithole.
