Affordable ibuprofen is available. It is just a matter of algebra. A friend had a prescription for her dog. I bought a bottle of baby ibuprofen and did some math. It was 7 drops of strawberry syrup every day from a $3 bottle instead of $10 per day from the vet. Find the dosage for your dog from a get. Have a math smart friend (you did keep your nerd friend from H.S. right?) do the calculations and save money and make life easier for your gest buddy.
did a last hunt with my buddy Jack about 28 years ago. yup, that 20 dollar pound hound was the best hunting dog I ever had. he would jump up game after other dogs worked the field. birds where not his thing, but he did get them up as well. but rabbits and squirrels, that was where he shined big time. Jack was 14 at that time, didn't move all that well. but when he saw the shotgun, well it was like he was 5 or 6 again. bad part was I didn't have any shells for the gun and no tag. didn't matter though, we worked the field and he jumped up like 3-4 rabbits. he was a bit weird as he only yelped once they where up and running. I always thought that was to tell me he had one up. I guess. his pictures are still on my wall here. damn fine dog, he was. I have often wish he was still around. dave in pa.
Damn. Just back from the vet yesterday. Ellie is showing arthritis in the rt frt leg/foot. She'll be 8 and I'll 67. I've never had a Dobie go over 9 yrs. I definitely feel his pain, bet he had a lot of great hunts over him. Started her on glucosamine chondroitin, and she's showing improvement. She's like a 2yr old when you pull out the ball and thrower, still wants to GO. But, I won't have her in pain, no matter.
Mine is 14, he looks a lot like him. He is showing major signs of the same issues. I pray that he passes away in his sleep and I don't have to put him down. He is the best dog that I have ever had and I have had some damn good dogs.
A dog is a part of the family. We had one who lived for 18 year and was a friend to the end. I consoled the family (and myself) by saying that he ran a good race and all he ever knew was love and care from the beginning to the end.
Jack lasted 17.5 years, he was blind the last 2 , I think. but he knew his way around the house and yard. but he teeth started to go about 2 years before that, so, I cooked him up ground beef to make it easier for him. blind he might have been, but he always looked up at me while I was cooking his dinner and thumping his tail against my leg. but when his hips started to go out under him. that I couldn't take was watching him fight to stand up. VET said, his heart and lungs where still good, but his joints started to go, I was already giving him stuff for pain when I saw he had problems. it was the hardest damn thing I ever had to do was that last trip to the VET with him. damn it dusty as hell here. dave in pa.
My dog, a Chihuahua, I know, a Chihuahua but she (Guido) was my ex-wife's dog and she didn't want her anymore is now 17 years old and in failing health, half blind, half deaf and wobbly rear legs. I took her now for over 13 years, yea, divorced the same... I was miss the little she-devil, has been a good dog and loves her walks and riding in "her" truck.
Had one Jack mix. Made it to 23. The walks turned into carries pretty quickly, but he always wanted to go with my other 2. Now I have 10 of them and I love them all. So.many different personalities. We don't deserve dogs.
I took Bailey, my shepherd-husky mix to DQ for her last vanilla cone before that last trip to the vet's office. I thank God for the dogs I have had in my life.

I just did that with my 12yr old Boykin last year. I saved a Wood duck skin just for her. She never would bring those training dummies back.
