Sonora was known as the "Queen of the Southern Mines" and was the largest and most important city in the southern part of the great Sierra gold belt. It was also one of the roughest and most lawless camps of all the Gold Rush settlements in California.

Sonora's 50 miles from Riverbank City of Action and was my gateway to wherever I was heading. I'd drive to Sonora and either hung a left on Hwy 49 to go to the Central and Northern Mining Districts, right to go to the Southern Mines, or straight on through to the High Sierras.
This was interesting.Id like to visit there, alot of cool history.
