I lost my Pops last night, folks.

It's with great sadness and sorrow that I spread the word of my father's death last night.
He left this cruel ol' world the same way he lived his life - with dignity. He was surrounded by family and I had the honor of holding his hand while he passed from this life.
My father was a Soldier and a III Percenter til the day he died and will be missed by all that knew him.
I'd appreciate your thoughts and prayers for my Mom and nieces and nephew.

  10. Ken,

Deepest sympathy to you and your family. I'm proud of Pops, and I didn't even know him.

You will never forget that moment, your dad's hand in yours, as I'm sure he never forgot the moment he first held your tiny hand when you were born. We come full circle.

May the caring of others comfort you during such a difficult time.

Forget where I found this, but it fits:

    Death Is Nothing At All

    ************************

    Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other
    That we are still
Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way you always used
Put no difference into your tone
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
    Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we always enjoyed together
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the ghost of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
    There is absolute unbroken continuity
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval
    Somewhere very near
    Just around the corner
    All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

  173. My deepest sympathies WC. Lost a grandmother to Lou Gerigs Disease, and watched her die over 7 years. I'm not sure which is worse. Loosing a loved one slow like her, or over a few days post diagnosis like your Pops. Either way sucks, but rejoice for his pain is over, and he's flying his Gadsen Flag in the afterlife.

  179. Kenny,

I lost my dad in '73, at the age of 50, so I have an idea of what you might be feeling right now. He was a B-17 pilot during WWII (flew BUFFs after the war).

I know you miss him, but be thankful you had him as long as you did.
