#5) in addition to the dangers of quicksand and piranhas, does anyone besides me remember an ad campaign that was constantly warning kids of the dangers of finding blasting caps laying around?
I do! It was a different world. As a teen I did actually find a cloth bag with about 20 of the things in it. Don't recall that public service abnouncent affecting my actions though.
Raises Hand and waves. Yes sir! I also used to pour lighter fluid in them first. Speaking of Blasting cap warnings, cherry bomb fun and other first rate entertainment from the past, anyone else remember the old commercials about taking the latches off of refrigerators before throwing them away?
I remember the blasting cap PSA's. I never found any, but I did find dynamite in some old mine shafts.....as dumb as I was, I knew better than to even touch that dynamite.
When I was in 6th grade, about 50 years ago, one of the kids blew a hole in his foot and they had enough of that and searched the school grounds for any more. The kicker is.....part of the search party was the 6th grade class! Could you imagine the uproar today if that was done? omg, lol. But then again, we did not have nary an adult during crosswalk patrol either.
Ah...the Torpedo! We'd ransack empty cabooses and find boxes of them. Nothing like laying them across one boulder and smashing with another, or wrapping the lead strips around the head of a railroad spike and dropping them from a good height to the concrete below. Those were the days, with a chance of loss of limb or life around every corner.
The Disney film one for the win! Thank you. Even my wife laughed out loud at that.
ReplyDeleteThe Disney grab gets my vote too.
ReplyDeleteThat is some good shit there.

DeleteFunny because I remember them from when we lived on Plattsburgh Air Force Base.
DeleteI used to build model cars and then blow 'em up with cherry bombs. Anybody else?

DeleteOddly enough, flamethrowers are perfectly legal in Florida. Now imagine riots in the burbs.
