History books typically depict Vikings as blue-eyed, blonde-haired, burly men sailing the North Atlantic coast to pillage wherever they set foot on land. While some of that may be true, a new genetic study of Viking DNA is flipping much of this history on its head.
You don't take boats down Russian rivers to the Black Sea and then on to Constantinople and not pick up some volunteers here and there. Passing through villages means making some contributions to local populations. Few if any peoples are all they claim to be, or as history has claimed for them.

The paper's abstract says: We find evidence for a major influx of Danish ancestry into England; a Swedish influx into the Baltic; and Norwegian influx into Ireland, Iceland and Greenland. Additionally, we see substantial ancestry from elsewhere in Europe entering Scandinavia during the Viking Age.
This is not surprising. Vikings got around. The men doubtless left their genes (this is my polite way of saying they raped and otherwise fucked around) in places they visited. They also brought captive women (and likely volunteers) back to Scandinavia.
"Viking" was NEVER a people, it was a job description, namely trader/reiver. Without reading the paper, I suspect the paper itself is not radical. The writer at Inverse (whatever that is) is probably putting a progressive spin on the paper. Writers and "academics" in the bullshitting professions like to contort history and facts to serve their own agenda. For example, did you know that we owe Western Civilization to just two great cities? Yes, that's right! It was Athens and Jerusalem!
"The writer at Inverse (whatever that is) is probably putting a progressive spin on the paper" yah think?
DeleteWell the paper came out academia. That should tell you all you need to know about the "slant" paper.
On another note, there's another article (link at top left of the article linked at the jump here) about another study of modern human/neanderthal/denisovian DNA Y chromosome distribution obtained from ancient DNA. This other article concludes "both H. sapiens and Neanderthal populations accepted children of mixed heritage ... Ancient humans had a habit of not limiting themselves to their own species for sex"
More "scientific" mumbo jumbo to justify the further mixing of black and brown people with white people. Watch, someone on the left will be using that as an argument to justify further denigration of white people in 3, 2, 1...

"That should tell you all you need to know about the "slant" paper."
DeleteHey, hey...it's about Vikings, not Asians.
" They also brought captive women (and likely volunteers) back to Scandinavia."
DeleteThat explains the good-looking Scandinavian women; there's no point in hauling an ugly one home.
All of my great-great-grandparents came over from Sweden, yet a Celtic blood disorder ran in my family.
ReplyDeleteAs one author notes, our ancestors got around a lot more than we think they did.
Frank
Guess who the Vikings didn't bother with?
ReplyDeleteThe Finns. Not only because they were all considered backwoods hicks that weren't wealthy, but all the trading/raiding parties were assaulted by arrows and spears before they could get ashore.
And the blood has been among the purest left before a certain other tribe started shipping others up there, much like everywhere else in Europe.
Ahem...
ReplyDeleteA-Viking we will go!

How is this news ? ....... War makes me horny so we fuck the women in the area. That's been going on through out history as it should.... Good times. 👍

Too late. Vikings were bad people and will therefore be removed from history, pretending it never happened.
ReplyDeleteThey are already destroying the artifacts.

They found a major infusion of Danish DNA in England? that is hardly an Earth shaking discovery considering that the Anglo bit of Anglo-Saxon refers to the Angles, people of Southern Denmark who were one of the main peoples that migrated to England in the 5th century and settled in the English midlands while the Saxons from Northern Germany settled in the south of England hence why so many place names in the south end in -sex ie Wessex, west Saxon.
ReplyDeleteI`m surprised that the article didn`t float the idea of lots of Vikings being found with African DNA,since these days White people are forbidden to have anything of their own, everything has to be inclusive.
Vikings were Aryan people and Hitler loved the Aryans. So, Vikings are literally Hitler.
ReplyDeleteThe Normans who famously invaded England in 1066 were originally Viking who took a fancy to French wine and women. The song, they could do themselves. So Britain was caught between the same bunch from both North, West and South.
