The Make-A-Wish organization confirmed Shankwitz died at his home in Prescott of esophageal cancer. He was 77.
Make-A-Wish is known for granting the wishes of children dealing with critical illnesses. 'Wishes' range from trips to day-long experiences.

Proof that there are still some good people in the world from time to time. I wonder about the foundation, and its' staff and their political affiliations. "Feel good" and "Do good" people in my experience are usually either liberals or Christians. Since being Liberal and Christian is often mutually exclusive . . . . . . Well anyway since everything these days is politicized, I thought I would politicize this too.
ReplyDeleteRIP Frank Shankwitz.
Rest In Peace Mr Shakwitz. You did a lot of good in your lifetime, and will reap the benefits of the world to come.
ReplyDeleteA really good outfit but if you wish is to go on a hunt they wll not support that.

Frank Shankwitz was NOT the creator of Make-A-Wish. He was a former partner of mine at AZ DPS, and I personally know this mans antics. Ask DPS retiree Ron Cox who the creators of Make-A-Wish were ... he will tell you the true story ... "The Rest of the Story."
ReplyDeleteThere is a real good movie based on him and how the foundation got started. The movie is titled "Wishman" and can be found on Netflix at least.
ReplyDeleteMake a wish. Probably one of the few left that has done more for humanity than any newer one will in a lifetime God Bless and God Speed Mr. Shankwitz.
ReplyDeleteAll well and good with Make-a-Wish, but they will not provide children whose wishes involve hunting and firearms. There is an organization that does provide outdoor wishes to those kids who would rather got on a hunt with their father than visit Disneyland. Check out Benefit4Kids (B4K.org).
