I slipped and went down on a country road and somehow ended up lying alongside the bike (a big one) with a severe pain in the chest. The counterweight on the end of the handle bar had punched me hard on the sternum. I can’t imagine what it would have been like if I’d changed them out for more stylish pointy ones.
In the 1970s chopper builders were advised to avoid pointed objects on the handlebars. When you go down pointed handlebars will hurt
