3 Secrets To Great Shooting

When it comes to shooting, few are at Rob Leatham's calibre so when he's got something to say about shooting, we should pay attention.

    1. Seriously? You've never heard of the best competitive pistol shooter in the world for the past almost 40 years?
You should educate yourself and then pay close attention to everything he says.

    1. Well, Joe, it's practice. Much like making the same comment twice. Shooting, takes practice. Ohio Guy

    3. His tonal quality is that of John Lovitz.

    4. The Springfield OSD is a 9mm! I looked it up.
      I don’t listen to anyone who’s not shooting a caliber above .4....
      I want a one-shot take-down.
I’m not worried about rapid follow-up shots.

    5. Dude, you can one-shot-take-down with a friggin pellet rifle or pellet pistol.

The myth of the one-shot-one-kill .45 has been disproved as to the magic powers of big rounds. Unless one practices to hit the target. And is shooting the right ammo (like FMJ during winter-time up north and other weird variables.) And is the reason why the double-tap exists.

      Grow up.

And, yeah, the lowly .25ACP has killed and wounded a shitpot load of people over the years...

    6. Hey Joe, What are you doing commenting online and so late. Guess that last pudding cup has you all amped up. Btw Thanks for the double barrel shotgun.

    7. Re one-shot kills: I'm recycling my comment from Weaponsman about 4 years ago. (Damn but I miss that guy.)

"The decline of our glorious Bright Water Clan began when we switched from the atlatl (a weapon system designed to kill) to the bow. The atlatl launches a proper spear, something with real stopping power, that can kill a tapir with a single shot. The bow, on the other hand, deploys skinny little “arrow” things suitable only for ‘possum shooting. So those punk kids tell me they can carry 15 arrows which put together are lighter than my standard three-spear loadout. But tell me this. If it takes 5 (or more!) arrows to put down a tapir, and I can do it with a single spear from my atlatl, which is more effective? And if you happen to shoot a jaguar with a single arrow, and he finds out, he’s gonna be awfully pissed off. And then what will you stop him with? Your little designed-to-wound arrows? Good luck, kid; I’d give three strings of cowry shells to see that, but from far away.

And don’t even get me started on what happens when a bow gets wet. Too complex, I say. Too many ways to fail. And you have to baby a bow, keep it clean, keep the string dry. A real hunter can’t be burdened with a finicky, unreliable weapon like that. That’s the thing about atlatls, they always work. You can bury one in mud for a month, then dig it up, drag it through the jungle for half a day, and it still works."

  3. 3 secrets?
    - put up a BLM sign.
    - put up a rainbow flag
    - put up a biden/harris sign.
Thugs will think you are too dumb to own any guns and will stop by for a visit.
    Surprise! Great shooting!

    1. So that's why a neighbor still runs a biden yard sign. Glad my wife didn't let me kick it over.

  4. In addition to learning all you can from Rob Leatham I also recommend you read Brian Enos' book "Practical Shooting: Beyond Fundamentals".

If you're a shooter who doesn't know who Brian Enos is you should be embarrassed.

  5. Well Joe, it’s like this. You got out and buy yourself the very highest speed, low drag Gucci pistol money can buy and then you put over a million rounds through it and you still won’t be able to accomplish the things Rob has over the last forty-three years in the world of competition pistol shooting. Hell, he was national IPSC champion 33 times. I don’t think there’s a better competitive shooter alive today.

  6. I got criticized by some coward for saying some old timer wasn't up to speed on how modern pistol shooters shoot. Rob Leatham's is the founder of modern pistol shooters and he's right on the money here.

    1. “Modern pistol shooters” is meaningless.
Sounds like “contemporary Country Music”.... which isn’t “country,” at all. Oxymoronic bs.
YouTube can make anyone and everyone an “expert.” You don’t really need to know how to do it, just how to edit it.
When he starts shooting real guns, maybe I’ll give some respect.

    3. It ain't Rob's editing, it's his shooting. I attended an event about 35 years ago that he won shooting a 1911 in 45 ACP. Is a 45 real gun enough for you?
The man is good - very good.

    4. It's me who criticized you and your never ending self promotion so anytime you want to run your piehole in person let me know. As to your " modern shooting nonsense, shove it up your ass idiot..

    1. I’ve seen this video posted several different places. I spent 22 years in the US Army and one of the odd little things that I noticed was there were a lot of black and brown people. Lots of them from big cities. Most of them good soldiers. So, while this video might be amusing, don’t think for one second that blacks don’t know how to train and fight. For the most part, I never thought of them as an enemy. They have no more power over us than we do them. The people who are doing everything they can to soup everyone up and divide us might be the problem. The really sad thing is, it looks like it’s working. History tells us once things get rolling, the instigators rarely get held to account. Not that that makes a tinker’s dam worth of difference when you’re fighting for your life. Guess I’m just saying don’t underestimate anyone, it won’t work out in your favor.

    2. Wrong, the instigators disappear in the brush and lay low. Its the useful idiots they put to the task that are the first to go.

  9. Joe has reminded me of a bowling pin match my son and I shot in 91 on Redstone Arsenal. Five pins on a 4 by 8 sheet of plywood. Any handgun you wanted but no more than six rounds before you had to reload. Pins 2 foot from the edge unless you were shooting rimfire, then we placed them one foot from the edge. Most guys used a .45, but I’d bought the kid a nice old Model 41 Smith & Wesson since he was only ten at the time. We also shot rimfire metallic silhouette competitions at the time, so that was a handy little pistol. I think I shot that match with a Model 19 S & W, which is not a good choice because the pins took longer to hit the ground. You’re on the clock. Clock starts when the gun goes bang and stops when the last pin hits the ground. Anyway, the kid won that match and the thing I’ll never forget is the guy who took second pissing and moaning about my son having an unfair advantage because he used a .22. Mind you, every one in the match was either active military or retired or related to one of the above. We all figured the guy was just pissed because he got beat by a ten year old. Even back then, anyone who had felt some heat knew stopping power started at 2200 feet per second and the infamous “one shot stops” were more luck than skill with anything going slower than that, and often didn’t take your opponent’s out of the fight with with stuff much faster. Most people in a firefight are so stressed they couldn’t hit Tarzan in the ass with the jungle. Unless you can call in artillery or an air strike, volume of fire is more better than caliber and rifles are more better than pistols. Oh yeah, and two way rifle ranges suck. Eod1sg Ret
