    1. Those things brought me home from Honduras and the "Deserts" enough in the 80's and 90's, I didn't care where they take it...as long as they took me home.

  4. 9) A significant portion of my life has been involved in solving rigging problems in the forward complex of the C-5A and C-5B. That nose section lifting up is called the "visor" and the interface between it and the fuselage and flight deck is also the fuselage pressure seal. It's all done with hydraulic sequence valves and the motor lifting the visor is a piston type hydraulic motor.

  5. I've seen #10 happen, hot water wash followed by a cold rinse without sufficient venting. Loud and expensive.

    Vacuum breaker didn’t.

  7. #10 Looks like the tank imploded. I wonder if they were pumping it out and didn't open any vents?

    1. Farmers in England are facing a double pronged problem with trespassers.

A couple decades back, a 'right to roam' unimpeded over others rural property was established in England & Wales. Originally, compensation would be offered for 'gross destruction' and 'interference with animal raising and farming.' Courts have since ruled such that payment was almost never made. Effectively, anyone can go tramping anywhere and do whatever they want.

Second, police used to ticket and eventually tow vehicles that blocked the narrow (often single lane wide) country roads or parked illegally on peoples access roads. They have cut back their efforts.

In the gif, a wanker parked blocking the farmer's working drive. When he came back from walking through a planted field, the farmer spoke with him. Wanker got mouthy and framer brought out his heavy equipment.

    2. Somewhere in Blighty a guy (black shorts, no shirt) blocked a farmers lane with his unwanted car. The farmer shoved it off his property and a little down the road.

Yes, Norway and a few other countries have right to roam which I think is rooted way back in some ancient common law or something. The concept itself isn't inherently bad and it is one of the perks that still has me interested in Norway since I like being in the wild when it's good weather.

However, it does need to be balanced with restrictions. Agricultural land, defined Curtilage, up-developed areas, etc, should absolutely be off limits to roaming unless there is a defined and limited access easement. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to be "nature hiking" through someone's lumber yard, an industry site, curtilage around ones home, etc. I'm under the impression the law was intended to allow people to PASS THROUGH land; ex: John Doe has 10,000 acres of undeveloped forest but doesn't let anyone pass through it on foot to access further parts of the countryside.

In my limited knowledge of RtR, people are NOT supposed to stay on private property; no camping, no fishing, etc. The problems come when people stop respecting property, cut locks, litter, etc; which is why there needs to be balance in these things. Land owners should be able to get restitution if they provide video, photographic, and DNA evidence of littering, damages, theft, etc.

Right to roam isn't the problem, it's the lack of values, respect, and morality in the people. I actually PICK UP trash as I find it when roaming around my neighbors property in Texas. Most people in countries with Right to Roam are undeserving of it.

That said, it won't work in the USA and I don't want to even attempt it here until we first RESTORE a great deal of private property rights and the sanctity of private property before entertaining right to roam for specific classifications of property. We also have to remove ALL of the BIPOC here since they are the greatest offenders of private property and perpetrators of property crimes. I had no less than several thousand trespassers looking for wildflowers earlier in the year and I'll spare the details but I recall only the veterans(white) and the Japanese being respectful.

Right to Roam can only work in homogeneous, virtuous, high-trust, ethnostate; it is doomed to fail in any other, especially without counterbalancing it with property owner protections.

    4. Before I went over to the Army I was in the AF and stationed at RAF Lakenheath. We had one of those dam footpaths that went right through the base, someone would come along that wanted to walk through a "Restricted Entry" base and we would have to let them in. Security Police would have to follow them through the base but they were allowed through no the less.

  14. #10 - someone had the vent plugged, they either had really cold temps or they were sucking the tank down (but doesn't look like it from this side).

I've seen the same thing with 400bbl and 1000bbl tanks, they have a vent for allowing the tank to breath depending on temperatures, but they also have a larger vent that has to be opened before you suck down the tank. Usually this means the vac truck driver has to climb up the tank to open the roof vent. Some drivers suck down at low speed to avoid having to open the roof vent.

One day a driver decides he's to lazy to climb up and open the vent so he sucked down a tank at full speed and did that to a 400bbl double wall tank; then the moron decides to move to the next tank and again ignore opening the roof vent. when that 1000bbl tank crunched like a pop can he moved to the next tank.

Thankfully an operator came on lease and stopped him from destroying a third tank. I pretty sure idiot was fired for cause when his boss got the bill for that stunt.

    1. Nature abhors a vacuum.
I've seen a 1/2" thick tank that was taller than wide get sucked in while pumping out some nasty chemical because the vacuum breaker was plugged over. I kept telling the maintenance supervisor and operations manager they had never inspected their pressure relief valves and vacuum breakers. Guess who was right.

  16. #9. At an Offutt AFB open house several years back, a C5 was on display, open front and back. I said to a flight crew member, "What I would like to do is go up on the flight deck." He looked at me and said, simply, "No." My daughter was a 1LT at the time and flight crew member on a RC-135. She didn't say a thing, because she knew what the answer was.

    1. Hmm. Weird. Back in '72, at the local air show on an Army base, the C5 crew let us go up to the passenger section and into the cockpit. An amazing collection of levers, buttons, lights, gauges, thingamabobs, dohickeys, and other stuff.
