  2. #4. Get busy living or get busy dying.

Long tome ago I met two guys who bicycled the Americas from NW Territories to Tiera del Feugo. One of their memorable stories was at a truck stop in S. America they thought it a good idea to draft behind the trucks. And it was a good idea until those truckers ripped down the highway at triple digit speeds.
The bicyclists were in a quandry. They were fighting the high speed wobbles but would get blown off their bicycles if they dared leave the slip stream of the truck. They worried if the truck would go even faster and they weren't at all certain how long they could hold out. To their great delight, the truck finally did slow down such that the guys felt confident they could drift away from the truck safely and come to a stop. IIRC, they said they had gone up to 135 mph. And the roads weren't well maintained.

    1. My guess would be that they went 135 KPH which is a bit over 80MPH, I'm basing this more on the trucks speed limitations rather than the bikes. I couldnt find the reference on google but I think I remember reading about a speed record in the 1890's where a guy drafted behind a train at about 100mph.

    2. Me thinks the bicyclists were pulling your leg. There's no way a guy riding a fully loaded touring bike could ever reach those speeds, even drafting.

    3. RR ties would make a speed record behind a train impossibly bumpy.

  3. #! - and the pile of brass casings left outside the window ? Which can be picked up and later dispersed at a shooting crime scene.

    1. Not to mention those bullets got to come down somewhere. They aren't known for their intelligence or consideration.

    2. I think perhaps that is fake.

    3. I'm not countenancing that in any way but bullets coming down from a parabolic arc are traveling around 200 fps, not the 1100 fps they left the barrel. Remember that at the top of a parabola, the bullet comes to a complete stop before falling to earth. Some physics and some elementary calculus can reckon the actual speed if we make some assumptions about bullet weight, initial speed and angle of departure. The falling bullet will not exceed terminal velocity in air of about 128 mph. I leave the actual calculations as an exercise for the reader.

The postal processing center maintenance department in Brooklyn, NY near JFK airport has a fine collection of expended bullets collected from the flat roof of the building. They rarely even dent the membrane.

  6. 7 - I had a 9' Burmese python that was a lot more muscular than that one (which is visibly struggling a bit due to the polish on the handrail) that I put in a tree once. He was completely in his element, used successive branches to go up about 12' from the ground, threw two loops around the branch he was on and ran his body and head out the length of the branch and settled in.

Larger snakes hunt in / from trees and climb very well.

I had to climb up, unwrap him and carry him down. Younger days.

  7. #1: Barring an explanation I can't fathom, what an ignorant piece of shit.
#2: Damn she's calm, and good thing there's proof of who's at fault because it can be a real bitch proving it's not your fault when clipping the back of another vehicle.
#4: I've never wanted to see a dump truck slam on the brakes more in my life. A rock on the road would be cool too. Cyclists on the highway are CANCER.

    1. It may not have been her fault that the other vehicle came over into her lane, but it didn’t look like she even considered touching the brakes until she had completed the pit maneuver and pulled over to the side of the road. It was avoidable. This is coming from someone who has to drive I-24 between Murfreesboro and Nashville every day.

    2. Saw a car come up an on ramp, they tried to merge left , didn't have enough room. their rear end clipped the front of a car in the right lane. If I remember right the car turned right and hit the center divider at 90 degrees.

  8. #3 I'd bet that old windbag will keep yapping as long as the mic is ahead of her face , kinda like Nasty Pelousy.

  9. #2: Polite driving is lower risk; she prolly could've avoided that and likely wishes she had, but rudeness begets rudeness. At least she handled it well, and hopefully the jerk who cut her off had some courtesy knocked into him.

Russ, thank you for the concise explanation about falling bullets. Even among many shooters, there's a mistaken assumption that those things come back down just as fast as they went up.

I'm guessing the brutha was hallucinating 'Martian War Machines' or something like that.
