I'm still not buying a Glock

They were hanging out late last Tuesday when members had to scramble for cover.

Four people were injured when a gunman leaned out of a passing SUV and sprayed the area with what sounded like an automatic weapon — a theory confirmed by witness testimonies and the ShotSpotter.

The incident last Tuesday extended a string of shootings involving ordinary handguns and rifles that were modified into fully automatic weapons capable of firing up to 1,200 rounds per minute.

  1. You mean criminals ignore gun laws? I'm shocked!

  2. I want to see that Glock with a side plate. That would be quite the modification...

    1. It's not a side plate. It's called an auto switch and it replaces the slide cover at the back of the slide.

    2. "Slide" plate, not "Side." It's a small, removable plate at the back of the slide. Where the hammer would be, if it had one.
You can buy all sorts of custom plates to decorate with, if you are so inclined.

  3. I'm willing to bet large sums of money that even a fully trained expert could not get off 1200 rounds in a minute from these guns. Can't be done. Between magazine sizes and barrel meltdown.

    1. Rounds per minute is measured in sustained fire, not actual fire.

    2. With the exception of Ghost Guns. They have the 'bility with a thirty caliber clip to disperse with 30 bullets within half a second. Thirty magazine clip in half a second.

    3. It can easily go to 2400 rounds per minute after a Pfizer booster shot.
(I hope you realize that I can make up stuff and numbers just as easily as the 'press').
      😂😂😂😂😂

    4. The 1,200 rounds per minute is referring to the "cyclic rate of fire" only (i.e. H&K MP5 has full auto cyclic rate of fire 1,200 rpm). In simpler terms a Glock 18 full-auto will fire app. 20 rounds per second. I have fired a Beta (100 round) dual drum through a Glock 18 on full auto. It was amazing and more controllable than I would have expected. I imagine if someone built a drum/magazine that would hold 1,200 rounds of ammunition for the 18 that failures would begin to occur around the 250-300 round mark (the barrel and other gun parts are not designed for long bursts of sustained fire).

  5. Where to buy a 1200 round magazine for a Glock? Asking for a friend.

    1. Funny, you will need a tripod to hold it. I am with Wirecutter. Wouldn't own one. Had one about 3 months. 45ACP, traded it for a Taurus millennium. It shot excellent. I was happy with the trade after the fist mag. Also a 45.

    1. Solid guns. I have a XD9 Subcompact and a 1911 Mil Spec. I put a Powder River drop in trigger in the sub and it's great. Both are as accurate as you are, and are almost impossible to kill.

    2. I bought my Springfield 1911s over 15 years ago, so can't talk about recent products. One had a crack failure above the recoil spring shroud, i.e. the slide broke in two and the front 1/4 of it was launched onto the floor in front of me by the recoil spring. I sent the gun to Springfield and they replaced it. They also re-blued the frame. It was not fast, took about 2 months, but they made it good.

    3. I resisted the plastic gun craze for a long time preferring the wood and iron feel of guns such as the Browning Hi-Power, etc. One of my good friends and my son began to shoot three gun matches and defensive/offensive courses. They were quite fond of the Glocks and tried to talk me into buying one. I ran up on a great deal on a Springfield XD9 (9mm) and bought it. My son gave me the business about it being cheap and it being named a "poor man's Glock". It is a great gun, very accurate, and most reliable. I have zero complaints. Next, I got me a G17 (9mm). I figured it would be like shooting a box, but it felt good in my hand and was very accurate. Not long after I traded the G17 for a G19 in 9mm and I really like it. It is as accurate as the man shooting it. I still enjoy carrying/shooting a Hi-Power, 1911, etc, but the weight of the fully loaded Glock 19 or Springfield XD is still less than either of my old workhorses fully loaded. The capacity of each of the polymer guns is a huge plus as well. I can shoot +P ammo in both too. I would recommend buying either the XD or G19. If a person decides after shooting a couple of hundred rounds through them that they are not for them, they can easily be sold without losing any money.

  7. Spray & pray as opposed to accurate direct fire. 100 rounds fired, 7 wounded? 7% hit rate. All you’re doing, homie, is keepin’ heads down until you gotta replace that empty mag. Better hope you’re covered up....

  8. I once had a 1911 where the sear (or whatever part) had a malfunction and about every 3rd shot it would b-b-brappp-p-p and empty the rest of the magazine. If you locked your arms and tried to hold steady you'd end up shooting nothing but sky. But if you'd flex your elbows and pull the pistol back towards you as it fired, the recoil wasn't bad. I could put most rounds in the right direction.

Played with it enough to have my fun then fixed it before I got in trouble. Full auto might make people shit their pants, but someone that knows what they're doing is better off in semi mode.
