DeleteHe can scrub his phone, destroy the entire thing, but the carrier has all the information of who/what/where he contacted anyone, used an app, etc.. If he’s like a lot of the smart phone users he also backs everything up somewhere on the web. So, if he can destroy the carrier’s network and it’s redundant storage facilities, along with the various apps hosting networks and their redundancy… and depending how deep the prosecution’s pockets are, that info can be obtained.
