"Alert the sheriff - that Wirecutter's crazier than a loon"

Dartmouth researchers have built an artificial intelligence model for detecting mental disorders using conversations on Reddit, part of an emerging wave of screening tools that use computers to analyze social media posts and gain an insight into people's mental states.

  1. Aaaand we are a smidge away from Thinkpol. Nothing like locking up folks that have not actually done anything criminal, you know, just in case. Moving away from all civilization and off grid is looking better and better.

  3. Work by two people from commie China, and an Iranian MIT grad. Their research may be valid. Or it could be heavily biased by not only politics, but underlying cultural differences. I’d take with a whopping chunk of salt.

I have a strongly American “leave me alone and I’ll return the favor” outlook. Followed by BFYTW if I’m not left alone. This makes many East Asian people think I’m crazy. Foreigners don’t get to decide what’s “crazy” for us.

  4. This is going to be really fun to watch. It will probably be pulled fairly quickly when the results start going sideways from expectations.

In that case I want a narcissistic personality disorder detector. It’d flag one in four of your favorite people, Tom.

  7. Wirecutter's crazier than a Loon. We (well most of us) knew that. That's why we come here. Kindred spirits and all. ;-))

  9. I deleted FB in 2009 (at the time is was just "WTF is this shit? Farmville and Mafia Wars don't fucking interest me and I don't fucking care what any of you assholes had for lunch") and I've been banned from Reddit so many times I have to change IPs if I want to make a post, which I haven't in a long time.

I've always made my online persona somewhat difficult to tie back to my real life. A government wouldn't have too much trouble seeing through my $3/month VPS I'm sure but it keeps the woke mob at bay and I shouldn't get swept up in any mass hoovering like this shit here.

People (and companies) know what you tell them, and posting on social media is a trove of information, all of which can and will be used against you one day.
