Hello, we've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced on Thursday it has ordered phone companies to block any traffic regarding known robocall scams marketing auto warranties from a specific operation which was said to be responsible for more than eight billion calls since 2018.

Typical government agency, springing into action after the problem winds down.
It's been a couple months since we've gotten any of those calls, down from 3-4 a day for a year or more.

  2. I hardly get any spam calls anymore. They've been replaced by spam texts - and those you cannot block like a call. The only remedy I have found is to turn off ALL text notifications. Technology sucks when they can't do it right!

    1. My cell is an ancient flip phone and I've never checked the text messages in all the years I've owned it. Hell, I don't think I've made 5 calls on it in that same time period.

    2. The best response to the spam texts is meme warfare. They *are* monitored, and replays tend to bog down their system cause they have to check if it's something they want. Start off with lighter hearted "facepalm" memes, and then hit them with whatever fucked up memes you can find. Within a day, at most, you will be blocked and the robo texts die off for a week or two.

Except for political robo texts, they have pretty fast response time, but they don't seem to stop (at least the progressive ' liberal ' ones), but those are more entertaining anyway cause they are normally staffed by snowflakes with candy colored hair and 30 different genders/pronouns so they get *really* upset when you start hitting them with memes that make their chosen politicritter look bad, or state obvious facts of life.

  3. How much do you want to bet the frequency and amount of calls will actually increase?

  4. Spam......emails, calls, texts.....
are all blockable on my iPhone.....
I’ve got so much crap blocked.....
that I’ve started deleting the oldest blocks......
so I can block the new spammers.

  5. I have a Panasonic phone that lets me block calls by range. I have all of the toll free numbers blocked by area code and have the first ring option turned off. I actually had one group that was calling me 9 times a day, every day. I would block their calls and the next day, I would start getting calls from a different number, but the same pattern. I answered one day and cussed them out, but the other end was an automated call agent. Next day, same shit. So, I just blocked anything from a toll free area code. Since I blocked the toll free numbers, my calls have gone down to one or two a week. Well, that and the 315 area code where Elise Stefanik lives.

  6. Me, I just don't answer the phone unless it's from someone on my list, period.
