and this:
The course reversal comes after backlash to the presumed policy erupted on Twitter. Tech leader David Marcus suggested that it was reprehensible for the company to refuse service to customers because it finds their political views objectionable.

I got that tweet from Wisco Saturday afternoon and damned near died laughing. Seriously, I had tears rolling down my face.
That's some weak backtracking there, paypal. I could do better than that when I was nine.
I'm sorry, but there is no way in hell I believe that 'this language was never intended to be inserted in our policy' bullshit. Somebody was directed to write it, somebody did write it, somebody reviewed it, somebody passed it up to the legal department, somebody approved it, and somebody posted it.
That's a lot of blame to go around and you can't convince me that some blue haired clerk with a nose ring, full sleeve tattoos and rainbow bumper sticker on the back of her Tesla thought it up and did it all by herself.
Okay, now that they've backpedaled, am I going back to them?
Naw, I'm taking a hard pass on it for several reasons. They're anti-gun leftists, they think I'm fucking stupid with the above retraction, they've made it as difficult as they could to close my account, and they didn't say a damned thing about not fining people, without allowing them to mount any kind of defense by the way, for expressing a conservative opinion if they consider it to be hate speech - not misinformation, but hate speech.
Look, the only reason I had it on this site was because it made it easier for you if you wanted to kick me some ammo money. You could do it with your own paypal account or use a debit card without even having to get up out of your easy chair to snail mail it to me. But donations have crashed this past couple years because money's fucking tight, and I totally get that. I'm not hurting as bad as some are, so how could I, in good conscience, take food from your mouth or gas from your tank? I ain't that way, man.
I opened that account back in 2004 so I could buy and sell shit on ebay, but I think I've bought one item off that site in the past ten years, so it's not hurting me there either.
My point being I don't really need paypal, so why would I even want to go back?
Okay, one final thing: At the close of the market on Friday, PayPal stock went from $94.42 to $90.17, a drop of $4.25, and showed a steady decline all day. I can't wait to see where it goes today.
And before you ask, no, I don't watch the stock market. Are you fucking kidding? I can't even do grade school math.
It seems their rollback is a bit less than meets the eye.

The legal part of all this is what gets me.
ReplyDeleteHow could they think that was in any way legal?
Only the .gov is "allowed" to steal
There is nothing illegal in what they do.
DeleteBoycott them back to the Stone Age, no more forgiving and forgetting!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how good the golden parachute is for the paypal CEO. If I were a major share holder I would want the guy fired without termination pay. Or I could be wrong and the major share holders suggested the fine.
ReplyDeleteThis is more testing of the waters. This is all connected. Soon banks will close and keep all your funds they hold. Here in Idaho there are business that will not take a check as payment now. This is all a slow creeping in a direction that our betters intend to take us. Hey other frogs in the pot is it me or is it getting hotter in here? Way too many need dirt-naps, FFF/22BOH. The clock is ticking, spicy times bitches, real spicy.
ReplyDelete(Dear fbi, cia, dhs and you fusion center heros, these comments are for entertainment only and do not reflect any reality).
Ken, I did not visit Knuckledraggin much last week, and was surprised that my monthly donation was cancelled. Now I understand, so ignore the letter I sent. I have used PayPal since 2003 with no issues. I only use it for the easy convenience of paying for shit. I will set up another monthly donation method.
ReplyDeletePiss on their graves.
ReplyDeletePaypal is down to 85.32 and dropping at 09:18 central time.
ReplyDeleteToday I Learned - It’s easy to close your PayPal account in the app. Just click the Close My Account button.
ReplyDeleteI was already refusing to use them because of their previous transgressions. Your experience just convinced me to make it official.
They're supposed to help the people with their business, not control people.
ReplyDeleteBasic customer service.
Go Woke, Go Broke, PayPal.
They hate us, why give them money?
ReplyDeletePay pal stock $84.72
ReplyDeleteSo in other words, the notice they sent out about fining people for misinformation was itself misinformation. Does this mean they'll fine themselves?
ReplyDeleteWhat a bunch of maroons.
PYPL is $84 right now! Tanking
ReplyDeleteSpent an hour on the phone trying to close my account. Unsuccessful. Will be on the phone again tomorrow. The customer service representative (india call center, of course) assured me that PayPal believes in freedom of speech. Yeah, sure they do.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a couple three days. First they said I couldn't cancel because I had paypal credit, so I canceled that through the issuing bank. Still couldn't close it. Got in contact with 2 different paypal reps through a chat and was told by one it would take two business days to verify I closed my paypal credit account, and another that there had to be 6 months of inactivity before they could close it even though there's nothing in the user agreement concerning account closures about that.
DeleteTried again yesterday morning using the 'close account' button, and it worked.
You need to remember that as far as Customer Service is concerned, you aren't the customer. The company is.
DeleteCancelled this morning. I care not what bullshit excuses they trot out, or what minor executive gets thrown to the wolves.
ReplyDeleteNever forget. Never forgive.
I am soooo glad a lot of us have loudly punished PayPal.
ReplyDeleteYeah screw PayPal.
But by making it so blatant and public will help convince other companies to avoid implementing their Leftist totalitarian impulses.
paypal credit ,same thing with me. calling my bank first thing tuesday morning.
ReplyDeleteDumped PayPal about 4 years ago after I learned their positions on guns and the company political lean. Screw them.
ReplyDeleteYou are a star, Kenny. Through and through. Thank you. --nines
ReplyDeleteUh-oh, what did I do now?
DeleteTried Zelle with my son from my First Horizon banking app. He banks with Wells Fargo. It would only let me send $1.00, and all I needed was his phone number. Tried again the next day and same thing? Don't know if I would want to pass out my phone number to people I don't know. I may try to download the app and see if that works. Got to get rid of Venmo as PayPal owns them.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem I see with closing my Paypal account is that I can only close it once. I've shot the only arrow in my quiver and I have nothing left to retaliate with the next time they do something stupid. I suppose I can not use them even harder. (See Dick's Sporting Goods)
ReplyDeleteApparently their reversal was short lived.

Instead of cancelling my Paypal account, I'm going to drop my balance down to almost nothing, as I might need the service in the future. Lets see...
ReplyDeleteI could leave a balance of $20.20. That was the year the Democrat Party stole a presidential election. They also encouraged the impulsively-weak to destroy $2b in property over the fentanyl OD death of a loser. Or...
$20.21: the year the Democrat Party steered the US economy into a free fall. Perhaps Paypal can tell us their attempt to grab customer funds was "transitory." Also the year the Democrat Party called me stupid for not taking their clot shot. Or...
$20.22: the year the Democrat Party pedos went full groomer with drag queens in our childrens' classrooms. (and probably stole a bunch of midterm elections...) Or...
$20.23: the year all business students are assigned the case study: How to destroy a multi-billion dollar brand in 4 days.
Whatever I decide, I will be looking forward to their 4th qtr earnings call in January, when major investors all ask simultaneously: "WTF were you thinking?"
Account closed.
ReplyDeleteGabPay for 1.9% fee, $.15 per transaction might be worth setting up. Just got an email from Gab today about it.
ReplyDeleteAccording to newswire, PayPal stock lost 6 billion over the weekend. People are reporting that they are being told that cancelling accounts must now be done manually, and will take "a day or two". The exodus is continuing.
ReplyDeleteNah, I've already retired my PayPal API keys and removed it from my website.
ReplyDeleteI was going to replace it with stripe but I forgot to correct the domain for the account email and stripe's "support" left me out to dry. If anything went wrong with it then I would simply be screwed. Stripe is not an alternative to PayPal and may be worse once the "support" side is accounted for. WooCommerce was on the ball though and solved the issue in ~2 minutes after contacting me; closed the account.
I now have a Skrill account now and may check out Fondy but they took so long to approve my email that I'm put off by them. TransferWise is nice but doesn't seem to be able to invoice people directly unless they want to log into their bank and pay the account manually. I may run a test transaction using Skrill to see if people can pay invoices similar to PayPal, I.E portal and no account needed. Worst case is I may be stuck still using PayPal from time to time for people who don't want to pay with antiquated paper checks, cash, crypto, or money order.
Most businesses that sell similar products prefer cash or crypto payments and partly due to payment processors (like paypal) being jerks. Tech is a prison.

PayPals' threat to take money from _your PayPal account_ is not precisely illegal, just typical of totalitarians.
ReplyDeleteThe hook is that if you use PayPal after (date), you agree to their terms, which seem to say, "if we don't like you, or what you say _anywhere_, you have given us permission to take your money ss "liquidated damages", meaning that PayPal dosen't have to prove that they were damaged at all.
F them with a rusty chainsaw sideways. I cancelled mine this afternoon.
John in Indy
P.S. I think that Zelle is a product of Chase Bank, if that matters.
this act by paypal reinforces why as catherine austin fitts says, you should always use cash because digital cash, of whatever variety, can be fully controlled by the powers that shouldn't be.
ReplyDeleteTuesday 10am: PYPL is down another 5.5%, or >2.5 billion in valuation. (that's a 8.5b drob in 1.5 days)
ReplyDeleteAnd in the PYPL view at CNBC, there is no mention of this story and the reason the stock is dropping. How many investors rely on CNBC to give them info on particular stocks??
https://www.cnbc.com/quotes/PYPL?qsearchterm=
GO woke, we'll make you broke.
ReplyDeleteUnrelated to PayPal... or is it? War on small businesses, small earners, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe bank I have my business checking account with now wants to charge $14/mo unless I maintain a minimum balance of $45,000 -- yes, 45 grand. I'm planning on closing tomorrow and handing them their memo as the reason why. It used to be a little local bank and I was incredibly satisfied but since they got eaten up by a big national bank, well, it went down hill, fast.
I maintain alternative accounts just for reasons like this. My eggs are not all in one basket.
