SFPD authorized to kill suspects using robots in draft policy

A policy proposal heading for Board of Supervisors approval next week would explicitly authorize San Francisco police to kill suspects using robots.

Wow, we never envisioned anything like this when we were kids watching The Jetsons.

  1. Right.

This lunch bucket just begs to be hacked, and when that happens the resulting circus will be phenomenal.

  2. What's the problem? This is for special situations where the suspect isn't going to surrender and there's no way to get at them with a sniper. This is how they finally took out that asshole sniper who murdered 5 Dallas cops a few years ago. Any problem with that use of it?

    1. Then they'll start using it/them in drug raids, then protests, then traffic warrants.....

    2. History clearly identifies the problem.

    3. Yes, I have a damn big problem with it. The cops are getting paid no matter what they are doing. Sit on the suspect. Turn off power and water and sit on the suspect until he surrenders or presents a clear danger to a citizen. I had a problem with how Dallas was handled. I don't trust cops to ever do the right thing. I wouldn't trust a cop to tell me what color the sky is.

    4. back in the day SWAT was for rare situations that normal cops couldn't handle. then they wanted armor, not just old brinks trucks but surplus military armor.

remember just two years ago they were using MRAPs to shut down barber shops and bars?

remember that kid the SWAT guy in CT shot THROUGH A WALL while he was unarmed and sleeping? cross that with what the ukranians are doing with drones to orcs in trenches. and hole-in-ones on tanks.

if they can shoot people with drones, it's a quick half-step from them dropping a pepperspray grenade through your sunroof because you were speeding.

the moment they get this, it'll sit idle. and some beancounter will ask "well..what else can we use this for?" and the answer to that question is NEVER something that helps us. EVER.

    5. The Dallas debacle was proof of concept.
As already said, history identifies how this will go.

  3. How are the robots going to tell Democrats from the unclean?

  4. "...how the SFPD is allowed to use its military-style weapons"...

So, it's okay for the SF cops to use 'weapons of war', but it's not for citizens to use same.
    Alrighty then. Got it.

Yeah, and by the way, where are our flying cars?

  7. Those - are not robots. Robots are autonomous.

  8. Reading this just makes me happy that I am old and hopefully will NOT see how this movie ends.

  9. Question. Most of San Francisco is mostly old Edwardian and pre WW! two or more story housing that have narrow staircases. So how in the name of Harry Callaghan are those big, heavy monsters going to get up there?

  10. They’ll be giving the mRNA shots, soon!
Imagine a pack of them hunting you down.

  11. with a whole lot of unemployed tech workers in the area, expect to see these get hacked and show up at the twitter headquarters, looking for south africans....

  12. well, robots can't be racist so if there is a police killing no actual LEO can be dragged out to be lynched by the Alec Baldwins od the world so that is a win I guess. Something tells me this ends badly.
