  4. They are old and I wonder if that was their last pup. I think about that. If our present pup lives a long life my wife and I will be in our eighties when she goes. That is if we also live. I can't imagine dying and leaving a pup behind wondering where to hell we went or what would happen to them. We figure this is our last dog. Our girl Maggie Mae is a special one but then again all of them were. To us a life without dogs would have been a life without sunshine.

    1. That asshole dog Jack was about 9 months old when he showed up here, and he'll be the last young dog I'll get for the same reason you stated. I figure I'll be in my late 60s when he expires. If I'm still alive and healthy when it's his time and I want another dog, I'll find an older dog that I can make happy his last years. If I outlive that one, I'll get another senior.

    2. Now there is a thought I had not entertained. Thanks. Living without a dog just don't seem right.

    3. Yeah, I have a small dog who's 11 now. I figure she's good for another 3 or 4 years. We're in a race to the end to see who gets there first. If my family history is any guide it's gonna be close.

    4. Damn, eyes are leaking again. Our beagle, lab, ?, ?, mutt, Maggie waggie doodle dog is our last young dog too. If we out last her, we'll follow Kenny's lead.

    5. Bright Eyes, just put the word out to some of your local vets. Ask if they know an older couple that has a dog that they can't care for any more. It'll give both the dog and owners some comfort.

    6. Several months ago, family friends took in a rescue dog. The dog had been the constant companion of an elderly widow who now went to a nursing home.

They took in the 8 yr old Yorkie to help fill the void when their only child passed away.

Very sad all around. I pray to God that they all know comfort and peace.

    7. We lost our German Shepherd 4 years ago. We've thought about another dog but I'm 76 and I really don't want to go through what we went through again. Miss that darn dog every day.

  5. Damn but that hurts.
Like some of you, I think of how I will manage dogbuddies as we age. I am guilty of being selfish and wanting to have some around me until the end, and I doubt I'll change.

  6. I'm 80 and my child bride is 76. Our GSD mix is 8. We've had this discussion. My wife says no more after this one. I say I can't see living without a dog but it won't be a 45 pounder and it will be one that our son agrees to take if we go before it.

  8. Our newest dog is only seven months old even though we're in our mid-late 60s. We didn't get him so much for us, we have two other dogs, as for the youngest of the other two. The 13-year old one won't be around much longer and the 3 year old needs a pet.

  9. I wonder if a nasal rinse will help with the allergies.

  10. Been thinking about that myself. It'll be a real drag without a pup around. I imagine I'll have to work things out with the grandkids.

  17. I have seen similar images before and they are always beautiful.
Before I had to put my boy down, when my stepdaughter asked about my dogs after I go, I would tell her we are all going to drive off a cliff at the ocean so no one would have to worry about taking care of any of us.
Needless to say, that was not the answer she wanted but seemed like a good solution to me.
Now that he is gone, I have thought about getting an older rescue of the same breed (min-Aussie) as my girl or even a kitten (who'd have thought), but she seems to be doing ok albeit she is showing her age without her brother so I will see how this plays out.
