#3 As a kid once in a while we would go to a town that had parking meters. A big deal. We used to leap frog one after the other. I shudder thinking of trying that today.
Kinda mixed here on him a cowardly bastard. IMHO, hes figured out an important adult concept of not going full throttle just yet. Restraint while making your opinion known until its time to go full fuck around and find out is a delicate balance. My guess is there are assholes on the bus and/or a possible asshole driver... But restraint, choosing your battles correctly, and then responding appropriately and legally (while ROL is still in effect), is the bitter pill to endure.
For full disclosure I will state I have a bias here. I grew up my first 10 years as a typical suburban cookie cutter white kid in a new subdivision outside of DC while my dad had a job for National Airlines after he got out of the Air Force. His side of the family was coal country hillbillies and he escaped that, but me at around 10, he decided that due to the pending de-regulation of the airlines and the growth of coal, he would move us all back there and start a coal trucking business.
First day of school I get on the bus and for the first time, i realize im way out of my element. Lots of firsts here... I smell BO from those that did not have running water at home, there are 3 other kids that are barefoot because they could not afford shoes, you get the picture there. im in some colorful striped shirt and white shorts sticking out like a target and immediately hit with the you aint from around here problem. Not horrible for the most part, but if there was ever any friction with the locals and myself, my bro, or older sis, driver did nothing.
As the years went by we integrated enough to just be one of the hillbillies, but for the first few, I understand this kids restrained FU.
Whatever. As someone who rode a school bus, it was never the driver I was flipping off. I didn't give the driver a thought, and neither did anyone else.
