#1 Is why I think some species should have elementary rights and protections. They might not build civilizations and technologies, nor have higher knowledge; but some do demonstrate higher thinking and capacities.

Number One: In the wait-room of my eyes doctor, they play videos of elephants painting. And I tend to agree with the comments about extending rights to sentient beings other than human. Sadly, tragically, unfortunately, that stipulation concerning 'sentient' removes a great many humans from the voting/driving/reproducing pool...
