How Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey is made

Founded in 1875 in Lynchburg in the Commonwealth of Tennessee, Jack Daniel’s is the best selling American whiskey to date. A unique flavor derived in part from charcoal mellowing and aging in charred barrels Jack knows what a true whiskey lover craves. Watch how Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey is made.

Jack Daniel's barrel houses are causing an out-of-control black 'whiskey fungus' in a Tennessee community, enraged residents say

The sooty black mold smothers homes, porches, and cars, locals say. It obscures street signs, and coats the leaves and bark of trees. It cements itself to any stationary object, and it makes residents question the safety of the air they breathe.

An out-of-control black "whiskey fungus," known as Baudoinia compniacensis, fueled by ethanol vapor from the Jack Daniel's facilities, has been a menace to locals in Lincoln County, Tennessee, ever since the famous liquor company started building six new barrel houses in 2018 and launched plans to build 14 more, locals say. Now, infuriated residents are demanding the company and the county answer for the damage and sinking property values, and to prove the ethanol-filled air is safe to breathe.

  1. All I know is that when I toured the JD distillery, the aroma of the product going into the charcoal filter was fantastic. It was too bad that you couldn't get a drink in the area but could buy it there.

  2. I never was real fond of Jack. I drank it back when Jack was THE drink but I didn't like it as much as I let on that I did. It's just got to much of a bite for my taste.

  3. At least they are not starting fires to burn off the vapors.

    1. Try Larceny small batch for sipping straight. I bought my first bottle about a month ago. It's really good.

    2. Chattanooga Whiskey makes some nice sippers as well. I like the cask strength, whoops my ass in 2 drinks.

  5. I live in a rainforest and moss and mold grow rampant. To deal with it, I scrape the tree bark off of mold and moss as best I can, then I spray a mixture of vinegar and 70% rubbing alcohol, doesn't seem to bother the fruit trees and it takes months for it to grow back, if at all. Other non-living fixtures I spray with bleach and water..
    I like JD and coke.

  6. Wasn't it Brown/Forman who bought out the original owners of Jack for $20 million? What I heard was, they took samples of the original, synthesized it, and made a "clone" of JD that tastes, smells, and looks the same but really isn't and costs much less to produce..
My fav is Kentucky Walker. Like Jack you can drink it all night and wake up in the morning without a hangover!

  8. My late engineer wife designed an earthquake tolerant steel beam retrofit for some of the Jack Daniels wood barns that hold the whiskey barrels.
Before the retrofit a small earthquake would have possibly caused the collapse and destruction of about 80% of the JD inventory, especially some their more mature aged product.
    Whiskey River. Literally.
She designed some interesting projects but that was my favorite.

  9. In the day I drank Bud and Black Jack. Never mixed Jake with anything. I always had a jug of Shine out in the shed for a sip now and then throughout the day. Loved that stuff. By days end I just mighta been hitting er a bit more regular. I think Shine was my favorite of all.

  11. Evan Williams 90 proof Kentucky Bourbon. Half the price of Jack, which seems weak by comparison. Occasionally I see 100 proof Evan priced accordingly.

  12. Jack Daniels ? Meh not my favorite probably not even in the top 5 . I usually keep a couple bottles around for gifts though . Folks seem to appreciate a jug of JD so I was in the habit of giving the L.P. delivery dude a quart of jack for Christmas , and a couple friends get a bottle too
