Watch Greta and the Greenies go apoplectic

A sizable piece of farming equipment has been the talk of the agriculture industry since the beginning of the year.

Rumors of an iconic powerful tractor many farmers grew up with making a return to production has had soil evangelists salivating for years.

Then last week, there it was – all 70,000 pounds of it on display, as Big Bud created a huge buzz at Con Expo in Las Vegas.

  1. How long before John Deere finds a way to shut him down? The mysterious Christmas Eve fire, cause still unknown, may have been their first attempt. If so, it won't be their last.

  2. Instead of running these 1100 horsepower, let's use 1100 horses instead and complain about manure and the amount of poor kids that will starve to death because we've got to feed those 1100 horses instead. Do horses also generate methane? Can't we have electric horses?

  3. This WILL hurt John Deere. Even a production of 20 a year will make a dent in Deere's big tractor sales. And it's farmer maintainable, and farmer repairable. Deere may have to come back to the same, or simply start losing new equipment sales.

    2. Boston University's participation trophy degree is a Bachelor's in Economics (as presented to AOC.) University of Helsinki's participation trophy degree seems to be a Doctorate of Theology, for which Greta is completely unqualified for, since she worships the creation rather than the creator.

  12. Yes, it's big. A full size Deere with a full compliment of ballast can tip the scales at 60,000 pounds, so it's not earth shattering in proportion. These "Buds" are rubber tired machines. The major manufacturers have been pushing their big articulated machines that run on tracks. Better for avoiding excess soil compaction. Not everyone can utilize tracks, and few can take advantage of a machine of this size. Hopefully they will do well. Especially with the shade tree mechanic-fix it yourself types. As for cutting into Deere's sales, I think they would be worried about as much as the Lincoln guys would be worried if Rolls-Royce introduced a new model.

  13. On the one hand, I'll be glad when "iconic" stops being a buzzword, especially because 99.9% of the people who use it think...sorry, feel...that it is a synonym for "famous". On the other, the next buzzword will be just as misused and probably more so.

  14. Check out the video, the track style wheel shown right next to the tractor is a good alternative to a true track, without all the associated hardware required for a track. Put 8 of those "track" tires on that big boy, and you have a low ground pressure machine, thus avoiding the soil compaction issue and avoiding sinking in wet ground. Using Caterpillar components is a smart move also, they make the best and most durable of all mining and earthmoving equipment (trust me, I'm a retired mining engineer and I've seen them all, underground and surface). And hey, everything will break at some point, so serviceability is a big deal.
As a side note, almost, if not all of the surface equipment manufacturers offer a LGP, or low ground pressure alternative for their "track style tractors", aka bulldozers. They feature wider tracks.
Good luck to the big boys.

  15. Oops, Joy Manufacturing makes the best underground mining equipment.
