Mid 70's, cruising around with friends on a Sunday night. I'm driving, my best friend riding shotgun, the hottest girl in school between us. Don't remember who was in the back. This song came on the radio and she's singing along. I was never so happy to be referred to as a "clown." That memory comes back every time I hear it.
Stealers Wheel had maybe three or four hits in the UK in the late 1970s. Gerry Rafferty went on to have a few more, Baker Street being the best known. Rafferty's album City to City was quite good and pretty successful as I recall.

ReplyDeleteSadly, I do.
ReplyDeleteStealers Wheel, their one and only hit, I believe.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I never knew the name of the band that did that song.
DeleteTheir Wiki page has their picture. A couple of pretty geeky guys.
(Said the guy whose '69 senior picture is beyond geeky: Regular Men's haircut, horn-rimmed glasses, white dinner jacket, black bow tie.)

DeleteCity to City was an excellent album, perfect for a nice mellow evening. I've got the CD around here somewhere.
