L.A. County inspectors check for price gouging at gas stations

Gas prices in Southern California continue to climb and now Los Angeles County inspectors are checking to make sure that customers are actually receiving what they’re paying for at the pump.

Gas prices jumped 12 cents overnight and the average price in L.A. County as of Thursday is $6.28. This is the 22nd time in 24 days that the average price for a gallon of gas has risen. Compared to the national average of $3.83 for a gallon of gas, California is paving the way for some of the highest rates to date.

  1. Last week my local NorCal Arco station raised their price for regular from $5.21 to $5.69 overnight, a 48¢ increase.
And I see the price in Lafayette, Tennessee has dropped 10¢ since last I looked.

Meanwhile, Gov. Gav tells us the reason we pay $2.30 more for a gallon of gas than it costs in Tennessee has nothing to do with his party's policies, it's because of the greedy oil companies.

    1. Thought of you when I saw that in town yesterday.

    2. Regular: $5.79- $6.79 here in So Cal yesterday. Thanks, Gavin.

    3. $6.79 a gallon in SoCal equals two times the Lafayette, Tennessee price of $3.39 a gallon. Imagine that.

What would Gavin say? That paying twice as much for a gallon of gas is the premium you must pay for living in his Utopia?

Yes, he would say that. As his CHP security detail use their state credit cards to fill up their three black state-owned SUVs as The Governor heads off to a scrumptious dinner with friends and lobbyists at the $800 per dinner French Laundry.

It's good to be the King.

I'll bet the prick stiffs the hired help when it comes time to pay tips.

    5. Yeah, $3.19 just north of Nashville in KY.

    6. My GasBuddy page never shows Walmart but does show Murphy USA, which is always the same price that you say Walmart is. And according to the map it looks like it's near Walmart. Is it really one and the same?

    7. One and the same. It's in the Walmart parking lot between the store and Hwy 52. Just to the NE and on the same side of the highway is the BP station where the Swifty's used to be.
I miss Swifty's. It was an old 1960s gas station with an full service attendant who carried a roll of cash in his pocket so he could make change without going back inside. Reminded me of The Andy Griffith Show. Now it's self serve and a damned ol' convenience store.

    9. Holy cow. $3.06.

And in a statewide search, there are several places in both Kentucky and Tennessee that are below three bucks.

If I was a local NorCal reporter, I'd be doing a series of stories pointing out that when you travel to MAGA country gasoline is half the cost that it is in California and ending every story with a simple "Why?"
But I know those stories would never see the light of day in a 'company town' like Sacramento. That 'company' being Democrat controlled government.

    10. Franklin KY straddles I-65. Lafayette's prices are higher because we're 40 miles from the nearest freeway.

  2. Only the rich and the powerful are allowed to drive and even $20 per gallon won't bother them.
That's the mindset of the left.
They haven't told their voters yet, but even if they did that they'd still get the vote.
    You know 'anything but Trump'.

    1. About six years ago Californians voted in favor of a ballot proposition that not only raised taxes 12¢ on gas and 20¢ on diesel, it also allowed the state to raise vehicle registration fees. This is exactly what Gray Davis got recalled for trying to do.

The ads in favor of the proposition showed a fireman in a turnout coat explaining that if it passed it would improve roads and allow first responders to arrive at accidents more quickly. I kid you not.

      There's just no fixing stupid.

  4. The price gouging in CA is at the State Tax Dept.

    1. And the California Air Resources Board of unelected bureaucrats, who have been authorized by legislation to add, at their discretion, a 'Cap and Trade' fee of up to 77 cents a gallon on every gallon of gas sold. Last I heard the amount was at 22 cents, but it's near impossible to find out what the fee is currently, for some strange reason.

  6. They will come at you from all sides for you to get rid of that gas car. Even though electric cars wont cut it, they dont care. They want you on public transportation and will do anything to get you there.

  7. "On Thursday, Governor Gavin Newsom directed the California Energy Commission to implement gas price gouging penalties and restrictions on refinery maintenance activities. "

So, Gov. Hairgell is saying that refineries can't do regular maintenance on their refineries now?
Is that so he can blame them when one blows up and gas is even more expensive?
Or is it so that when they blow up, he can point a finger at them and charge them with some BS enviroment crime?
