Gun charges dropped against NYC Councilwoman seen with pistol at pro-Palestinian protest

NEW YORK - Charges have been dropped against a New York City lawmaker accused of bringing a gun to a protest because her gun was inoperable, prosecutors said Friday.

City Council member Inna Vernikov, a strongly pro-Israel Republican, was arrested on Oct. 13 for bringing a handgun to a Brooklyn College demonstration supporting Palestinians.

What a fucking idiot. Did she take the gun apart and was too stupid to follow the directions for reassembly or was she just flexing with the gun?

  1. Smart council to simply say
“Prove from your pictorial evidence that is a working firearm”
Personally I love it when a prosecutor squeals like a little bitch.

  2. Sounds like a made-up excuse that might be sorta kinda palatable to the nonthinkers in the public square. I wonder if this is how the overzealous DA backs away from a losing case? I can't think of any law she might have violated; she had a permit to legally carry concealed in public, right?

    1. Except that after the ass-whippings New York has taken from the Supreme Court these past couple years, they've designated pretty much the entire city as a sensitive place where guns aren't allowed. I'm sure that being armed at a protest is a big no-no there anyway.

    2. Just because you're legally allowed conceal carry does not give you the right to brandish the weapon. Displaying the weapon is generally considered brandishing.

But really sounds like more 2-tier justice than anything else. She belongs to the right party and was supporting the right cause.

    4. Ah, sounds like a good person then. NYFC needs more like her.

    5. She didn't brandish, and you usually have to have it in your hands to brandish. A news photo of her wearing tight clothes showed that she had it concealed, but her clothing was tight and she was printing. She never took it out.

  3. Just missing the recoil assembly? Nothing to keep it from firing. https://youtu.be/Xyis5h9MvUU?si=05GS5b2qvjQaRpuM
Not saying it is smart, but it is possible.

And yes, she was at a protest on skool grounds. So technically against NY State law. I don't know NY law, but does it allow open carry? Since her firearm was in plain view, it was not concealed. She no longer has a permit to carry since she surrendered it to the state. Thankfully in my state open carry has been legal since we became the 15th state.

  5. SSNP (Sky Scraper National Park) aka NYC, is known for freedom to carry via CCW license if you are politically connected, or pay off the right politicians.
The DA was probably brought a blind case, found out in court that it was a CouncilDrone (party is irrelevant) and backed away gracefully.
I am pretty sure they are dying over that fact that OMB still has his bodyguards packing and can't do anything about it...such is life in Sodom & Gomorrah. (ex-NYC resident, before you lose your shit over what I said)

    1. No sane person will object to what you said about NFYC. In fact, your comment was on the timid side.

  7. I have to think that this was almost certainly a case of her just trying to get public attention. Someone who would carry a gun to a protest for protection would likely know that they had to have the gun loaded and in working order. Having the gun the way it was likely served as her get out of jail free card, in her mind.

  8. Here in the big easy we can't have a firearm within so many feet of a permitted parade. The law says nothing about a "functional" firearm.

  9. And it wasn't like the bitch DA in St Louis, who got caught having a non-functioning pistol repaired so that she could support a charge.

  10. My guess is she has a very shrewd lawyer who knows the details of the law and told her to lose the recoil; spring, then turn it in.

  11. My cousin beat a DUI kinda like that. Wss drunk with the keys in his pocket but he had hit a curb and took out the right front A-arm. When the cops showed up it was inoperable and all he wound up with was drunk in public and a tow bill
