'splain that, Alec

Alec Baldwin was filmed using a gun as a pointing stick and opening fire after a director yelled cut on the set of Rust - the movie whose cinematographer he accidentally shot and killed.

Shocking footage broadcast in court Thursday showed the actor discharging a large prop weapon during the 2021 shoot, which was halted by the killing of Halyna Hutchins that year.

He was seen chatting to a crew member and gesticulating with the prop gun in one hand. In another scene shown to the court, Baldwin was seen firing the gun a few seconds after a director had loudly yelled 'cut.'

  1. I'm starting to think it was on purpose. This isn't manslaughter, it's murder 1.

  2. I don't think Alec Baldwin the actor is responsible. He wasn't handling a firearm, he was handling a prop gun. It was controlled and handled by responsible people who have the job of making sure it is not a firearm in this instance - but instead it is a prop. The reason for this lies in the creation of union rules in the dark days of Hollywood westerns. Some things never change; actors then were idiots as now, movie studios were greedy then as now, and if nobody has the specific job of making firearms safe, then they won't be safe. The union acted faster and created rules and roles that eliminated on set shootings and deaths.

So how did this highly functional system fail? Move you're movie to a non-union state and grab all the money for yourself. Even better, hire a nitwit and don't supervise them. Everybody feels safe, it doesn't cost much and accidents never happen anyway.

Now Alec Baldwin the producer, he is responsible, the clown who handed the gun to the idiot actor (he wasn't the gun master) and the first time gun master, who got the job because her father has connections. Not being a lawyer I won't speculate on what charges are appropriate. But if I was hearing a civil trial I would assign liability as 50% for producer Baldwin, 40% for the gun master, 10% for the idiot who handed the gun to idiot actor. And I would bonus 10% to the dad who got her the job without ever training her or following up on her job with a visit.

    1. 1st rule of gun safety is always assume the weapon is loaded...... Never, ever point a weapon at someone unless you in need to defend yourself with it.....
Baldwin is one giant entitled asshole who can't be bothered to follow basic safety rules so fuck that bitch and his excuses

    2. He is 100% responsible. He may not have loaded the pistol but he did cock , aim and fire it. Union or no - he did everything wrong
It’s like blaming a bartender because your drunk ass drove and caused an accident. Those dogs don’t hunt , friend

    3. Is it a popgun or firearm? I guess it depends on what the definition of is is.

    4. That is why the union rules were created. He is an actor, not an independent adult responsibly handling firearms after adequate training. He is performing job duties that require a firearm lookalike. If you are in court or training with firearms and a Red gun goes bang is it your fault for not checking? If that gun had gone off in your or my hands it would be a crime of negligence because there are clear rules that mandate checking yourself.

Now show me any video clip of a western set where the actors check their pistols Everytime they pick it up. Note that to make a convincing movie they must have dummy rounds that look real and other squib rounds that make a bang and flash. There should never be any REAL ammunition on set. So how is an idiot actor supposed to tell the difference between dummy and real ammunition?

    5. @Trumpeter It was not a prop gun, it was a fully functional firearm. It's already been established they were shooting it with live ammo earlier.

How can an actor tell if it's live or blank ammo? Let's see, by an empty primer pocket or already dented primers, painted cartridge bases, a couple BBs inside the cases so the cartridge rattles when shaken, etc, etc. They don't need powder at all with today's computer generated images. As far as a bang is concerned, they've been dubbing in sounds for decades now.

Dude that's some of the stupidest shit I've read in awhile....... it's everyone's responsibility to check the weapon and you are the only one here that has no clue.

    7. JD - Trumpeter is correct. The rules are different on a movie set. You're the one that has no clue.

    8. So the rules of gun safety are different for those in the entertainment industry. Now that's the stupidest shit I'VE read in a while.

Nope sorry but you're wrong. .
This is NOT a prop that is not able to fire a projectile it is a REAL handgun. The rules of weapon safety don't change for someone who pretends for a living..... When they aren't followed this sort of thing happens, and it did.....
