While it is true that the America that exists today would be unrecognizable to the founders of our republic, the most open minded of them would immediately understand what brought us to our current state.
The state of the Republic as it exists today is the ultimate realization of their fears of pure democracy. Everything that America does, and fails to do today is directly tied to the will (or lack thereof) of the American demos influencing the kratos. While the size, power, and influence of kratos- the federal administrative state- has changed in ways the Founders could not have imagined, it is the changes in the composition and quality of the citizenry -the demos - that caused the true horrors of today.
